Hey everyone!

So I just published my first book recently, it's an artbook of a mix of body painting, face painting, henna and fine art. The book is a coffee table book. I also have greeting cards, art-posters and postcards.

I am doing a special event, Saturday, March 13th, at Diamond Books in Westmount/NDG (the store really is on the border between NDG & Westmount).

From 2pm-5pm there are Temporary Glitter Tattoos, Face Painting, & Book Signing.
6pm-9pm there is a Soiree (free entry) with Door Prizes.

I am a book-worm, so I think it's interesting and great that Diamond Books has been open since 1914.

Anyways, I hope you come by and say hi!!

Cheers;
April-Anna

I made all 4 videos, some of these videos are pretty ghetto since I am only just learning how to use a simple video editing program, but also the filmings I have been taking on my digittal camera (extra feature), which the camera is not really designed to do, hence the low resolution of some of the filming... However, I just found out from my boyfriend that he had the video settings on the lowest resolution so that I could take 90 minutes of video compared to 20 minutes of higher quality video... needless to say I wasn't impressed and told him to put the settings back to the 20 minutes of better quality video.... LOL ... can you tell I am not terribly technically hip??

hey it's all good... thanks for checking it out.. thanks for acknowledging my skill... it's only me, I am a one women show... I made the video myself; no sound due to copyright laws and because it's hard to say who it will reach; it's hard to pick music that will appeal to everyone and not annoy others.... I would love to have a better video but that require money to pay for such services and that is a slow slow process; I have a girlfriend who is a film person and can help do some filming of me working but it could be another year before it works out for her to do something with me...

as for the website; if you pay attentioned while watching the video slideshow, you will notice that it promotes a website called: [ www.aprilanna.com ]

it's a start right? the video attracts attention and with luck brings opportunities to create better results....

Update » April-Anna wrote on Wed Jan 28, 2009 @ 3:37pm
other aspect is that is the very first time i have tried to make a video; I used the program that came with my camera.... I quite enjoyed playing with it and got me thinking about stop motion film; which I quite like and I am thinking with toying and experimenting with that..... but also I think that I would enjoy learning how to use more sophisticated software for making films; but I got alot of projects on the go and don't want to fork the cash on the programs... if anyone knows about any open source or free software that is available for making films... I wish a video/film person who actually had time for collaborations and would be able to create quality results.... I have two friends who could do it but they are both too busy with their paid contracts, often they work overtime; no time for projects with me.... yargh...

the next version of my video portfolio I make will have music as I have a couple friends who after seeing that slide show, they offered to share some of their music that they create; still have to listen to it and see what I think will be suitable...

anyways thanks for the feedback...

we were talking about the reference that was made earlier to Dr.Brommer's soaps... if you read the packages really carefully, it has alot of the late doctors spiritual beliefs which seem to combine modern spiritual bordering on hippie with christianity; it's a little over the top but entirely organic, the people really do pray over the soap and I have to say it's some of hte best damn soap I have tried though I am not into the religious propoganda....

in response to LukePeril who said: "Why is it that every time somebody wants to promote spirituality it involves so much pretentious talk about "wavelengths" and snap judgements of people as being negative when they're actually doing the opposite by being humourous? Is humour illegal to the "Tribe"? And where do you get off using the term "tribal" people? What, like if you're a member of some sort of tribe you can go, but if you're not, don't come? I'm not particularly tribal and the idea interests me, but all this talk about people not being on the right wavelength is flaky bullshit. I CALL BULLSHIT ON YOUR AIR OF SPIRITUAL SUPERIORITY! Just because it's a Mayan ritual doesn't mean that it's suddenly super holy, it's a ritual like any other, and it deserves to be spoken about without all the pretense. It's a gathering for peace. If 8000 people show up, yes it will create positive resonance. But that doesn't mean that it's exclusive to people who don't make jokes about sample packs! Hey you'd never have all the music you love listening to without sample packs! Get your head out of your pompous ass!"

look i am not trying to have any sort of spirituality-superiourity complex............. yargh... i was just trying to pass on the message and didn't want to have a huge debate over it ..... no matter what i say on here someone seems bound to either read into it, or misunderstand my intention entirely (at least on this thread) so whatever..... read into things what you want, take it as you will but if you read the original posting you will notice it suggests you can do this participation alone at home or with friends or with family or with a community or with whomever you want in whatever way you want so where on earth one needs to have a special badge or pass "tribe" to participate is beyond me... you read your own rules into this apparently...

Update » April-Anna wrote on Sun Mar 9, 2008 @ 9:07pm
i never even wrote the original message anyways... I just was passing on the word.... that original message says who wrote that message, who it comes from....

hold up a mirror cause i ain't throwing no superiority around.... even when I stated that I thought some of the responses seemed disrespectful and immature, I said it in as respectfull a manor as I could the same as I would in person with close friends whom I felt there was some kind of misunderstanding with... I am not attacking anyone so don't attack me... I never said that anyone on this thread didn't have a right to participate; how can i control or sensor that? why would i want to? all i want is a world of harmony we were talk out our problems instead of attacking each other ... so on and so forth... i am sure if i elaborate too much on what i want for hte world that you will attack me for being a "fucking hippie"

cheers.

Yes well I could never have anticipated this sort of reaction.
Many of the friends I have who use this network that I have met at parties, I know from our conversations, that they are on this wavelength and I decided to post this simply to share.

I don't know any of you personally and I don't want to rub you the wrong way in saying this; but I feel like your responses are rather immature and disrespectful.... no offense....

Update » April-Anna wrote on Sat Mar 8, 2008 @ 3:14pm
I do agree that action is what is important; however, intention can also go along way. For those who do drumming for spiritual purposes within the native community, it is really a form of meditation in many respects and it is often used as apart of healing methods but never relied on alone... it is usually considered a wise action to back up something like drumming with an action that supports the intention you focused on while drumming... it is simular to a visualization technique .... I don't see any harm in their request for people to drum with the intention of healing; if it doesn't float your boat don't do it... not a big deal... I was only sharing for those who would feel a resonance to this; I didn't ask for those who are not drawn to this to get involved... why do you need to diss it? why not just be "ah, not my thing" and move onwards; why all this long discussion about why you think it is so bad... ?

hey I am just passing on the words of the elders that were passed on to me and out of respect I choose to share it because I was asked to. Despite the less then positive, less then respectful, reactions the lot of you have given; I think there are folks here on this site who are on this wavelength and would get something out of it... You don't have to agree, understand or see it but I do ask that you at least have some respect.... the 1st Nations people were here long before us, we are on their land and they have a right to be heard; I am just helping to spread that voice.... Passing along the word to bring healing for our Mother Earth

This special event will take place 12 noon EST. It is also a full moon that day and spring equinox is March 21, 2008 (eg. if you are on the west coast, your time will be 10am this will be your time to be aligned with us here in EST etc. etc.)

8,000 DRUMS on March 21
at noon

HELLO, GREETINGS, ANIIN, TANSI, HAN, HAKODA!!

Darlene Courchene was contacted by my friend Gilles Novaks who is a Montagnais Indian from Montreal. He is a Medicine Man and a Healer. He asked me to get as many Tribal people to participate in a worldwide ceremony called the "8,000 Drums". He was contacted by two Huron Clan Grandmothers from up there in Canada and they asked him to help spread the word to all Indians everywhere. It will take place on March 21, 2008 at 12:00 noon . All you need to do is play a drum either alone, or with a group or have the whole Tribe participate. The purpose is to fulfill the OTOMI PROPHECY. The Otomi's are Mayan Olmec and Toltec descendants. The drums will be played so that the Creator will hear us and grant our wishes as we pray for help in the Healing Process of our Mother Earth. People are destroying Her and our Mother Earth needs our prayers. Thank you. Ewo-wox-co-dah-wa.

Canadian Jazz/Blues musician, Jeff Healey died today, March 2nd, 2008. I personally watched Jeff's career develop and I remember first noticing him on MuchMusic back in around 1988...

I was very blessed to help Jeff Healey celebrate his 40th birthday through sharing music together; it was the first time I had sung on stage in front of a large crowd and Jeff Healey was super awesome about staying close by because I had told him I was scared. I had come as a guest to help honour his birthday. I also had been witness to his renunion after around 20 years with band members he had started his career with. I am very sad to hear of his passing... I wish him bright blessings and smooth transition from this life and onwards... -AprilAnna Bremers

Guitarist and bandleader Jeff Healey dies in Toronto hospital

Following a lengthy struggle with cancer,
Healey passes away on the eve of the
release of a new blues rock album

Jeff Healey, arguably one of the most distinctive guitar players of our
time, died today (Sunday March 2) in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Toronto. He was
41, and leaves his wife, Cristie, daughter Rachel (13) and son Derek
(three), as well as his father and step-mother, Bud and Rose Healey, and
sisters Laura and Linda.
Funeral and memorial arrangements are pending.
Robbed of his sight as a baby due to a rare form of cancer, retino blastoma,
and he started to play guitar when he was three, holding the instrument
unconventionally across his lap. He formed his first band at 17, but soon
formed a trio which was named the Jeff Healey Band.
After his appearance in the movie Road House, he was signed to Arista
records, and in 1988 released the Grammy-nominated album See the Light,
which included a major hit single, Angel Eyes. He earned a Juno Award in
1990 as Entertainer of the Year.
Two more albums emerged on Arista, with lessening success as the ’90s
passed. Various “best-of” and live packages were released, and he recorded
two more rock albums, before turning to his real love, classic American jazz
from the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s.
By then, however, Healey was an internationally-known star who had played
with dozens of musicians, including B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and
recorded with George Harrison. Mark Knopfler and the late blues legend,
Jimmy Rogers.
A family man with a three-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter he
preferred to stay close to home. “I’ve traveled widely before — been there
and done that,” he told friends, determined to avoid the lengthy, exhausting
tours that marked his life in his twenties and early thirties.
A long-running CBC Radio series saw him in the role of disc jockey — My
Kinda Jazz was a staple for a while, but in recent years he had hosted a
programme with a similar name on Jazz-FM in Toronto. A highlight of his
broadcasts was always the use of rare — and rarely heard — music from his
30,000-plus collection of 78-rpm records.
As his rock career wound down as the millennium came, he recorded a series
of three album of early jazz, playing trumpet as well as acoustic guitar in
a band he called Jeff Healey’s Jazz Wizards. The most recent was It’s Tight
Like That, recorded live at Hugh’s Room in Toronto in 2005, with British
jazz legend Chris Barber as guest star.
At the time of his death he was about to see the release of his first
rock/blues album in eight years, Mess of Blues, which is being released in
Europe on March 20, and in Canada and the U.S. on April 22. The album was
the result of a joint agreement between the German label, Ruf Records, and
Stony Plain, the independent Edmonton-based label that has released his
three jazz CDs.
Mess of Blues was recorded in studios in Toronto, with two cuts recorded at
the Jeff Healey’s Roadhouse in Toronto and two at a concert in London
England. The backup group on the upcoming CD — the Healey’s House Band —
played with him regularly at the downtown Roadhouse, and at a previous club
bearing his name in the Queen-Bathurst area.
Early last year, Healey underwent surgery to remove cancerous tissue from
his legs, and later from both lungs; aggressive radiation treatments and
chemotherapy, however, failed to halt the spread of the disease.
Despite his battle with cancer, he undertook frequent tours across Canada
with both his blues-based band and his jazz group; he was set for a major
tour in Germany and the U.K. and was to be a guest on the BBC’s famed Jools
Holland Show in April.
Remembered by his musicians — and his audiences — for his wry sense of
humour as well as his musical playfulness, Healey was a unique musician who
bridged different genres with ease and assurance.

you would have to ask her... it is ligit and it isn't a resteraunt licence... it is licenced as a cafe.... these types of cafes are popular now in the states and growing (in all types of neighborhoods)... I am in a women in business course right now which is how I became aware of the place; she was a previous student and came to do a talk with us about the realities of what it took to get her business off the ground... she did explain the part of how it works with the licencing but i forgot what she told me; if you asked her directly i know she would be happy to tell you.... she really is a very nice women, she is from Mexico... but if it were a resteraunt licence she could not do this... there is not kitchen on site for humans (she is allowed to prepare dog foods in the kitchen but not human); she is allowed to do food prep involving coffee, tea, and anything that comes pre-wrapped... one of hte other bakeries service her and I know as the business grows she will eventually bring in other types of foods for humans from other local resteraunts and bakeries but for now it is simple....

well all i can say is the types of folks you don't like in the world you can truly ignore and have your vibe going if you want to... if happen to sit next to dog-breed-yappers then put on your headphones and you are set... I have a dreadlocked hippie friend who enjoys the place because he can bring his big germain sheppard in there and is welcomed; same with a musician friend of mine who has two big dogs, same with a friend of mine who throws rainbow style concerts who just relocated here from the states - he has a big dog too and has found he enjoyed the place simply cause the dog is welcome ..... the women who owns the place herself has a big german sheppard.... as I see it = to me it sounds like you are not able to share the world with other people.... if the yentas are judgemental and have airs that can only affect you as much as you allow it... who cares what anyone thinks; if the coffee is good, the prices reasonable, service is good and you can bring your dog in - I don't see what you have to complain about.....

I know the area and it isn't in westmont... it is on the cusp between neighborhoods..... you bring your own vibe with you.... personally i would bring my laptop and hook into the wireless internet.... if i go with friends; we create our own vibe.... I am just trying to share.... (which so far I have not seen any upper-crusts yapping about dog breeds)

well do as you please.... I think the place is pretty cool myself...... we can create the cool vibe where ever we want to and I know I met some cool people there when I chilled there one day.... but go as you feel to.... thing is, it is the only place in all of Montreal where you can legally hang out with your dog in the cafe.... bring cool friends there and ignore the hoity-toity-types and I am sure it will be all good.....

I found a Cafe where you are actually allowed to bring your dog into the cafe!!!

Le Doggie Bag Cafe specialises in cafe services for Dog's and humans alike... there is wireless internet.... special gourmet dishes for dogs that are
home-made, fresh, healthy and human grade foods.... along with basic
cafe services for humans (since the place is new, at this stage of the game of the cafe is mostly coffees, teas, treats etc all fair trade).

$430 Large Bright Double-room for rent in Organic/Environmental Household
Reply to: aprilanna@gmail.com

7 minute walking distance from Vendome Metro. We are two artists with two cats (coming from BC soon) looking for a creative professional or someone who would harmonize well with career-artists. To get a feel for who I am, you can see my website at [ www.aprilanna.com ]

I have a large double room for rent for March 1st; has a west facing window that keeps the room well lit all day, pale blue paint with original white moldings. The place we live in was built in 1905, high ceilings, old fashioned bath tub in the bathroom (but the bathroom is small), wood floors etc. The place has it's quirks to be sure. The kitchen is large but we do lack counter space and shelving (but that is something I am working on as I have money for the improvements). We are limited to minimul cooking devices at the moment; I myself moved here with everything I could carry on my back from Mission, BC two years ago. We do have basic dishes we can share. There is a washing machine and dryer in the place, shared living room. We have a small backyard that in the spring and summer is covered in vines. The room is not furnished but is quite large. The room is $430 + share of hydro/water which is an additional $60 per month. We would be getting in the internet (we have internet but it is from the present room-mates renting that room) which we would want to split between the household. Please let me know if this sounds like what you are looking for.

I learned from webdesigner and programmers I know that the more times a website comes up in other content, such as blogs, the more likely it is that a search engine will actually pick up the website within the first five listed on a search engine... right now I do need to fix up some of my meta-tags but either way, my website is not yet bringing me work and I am asking for all those willing to please write about my website using keywords such as "temporary henna tattoos in montreal" "face painting in montreal" in your blog... I am of course willing to do the same for you... (search engines priority is partly based off of popularity without the help of a search engine)...

friends I have already been talking to about this suggested we create a group blog about everyone's projects that we all post in our own blogs (the more blogs we create, the more the search engines will pick it up)....

anyone want to?

not just protest....
i will support a protest but i feel on a personal note that generating a large scale (I know this has been done before but I want to see if it can reach epic proportions) meditation/visualization

to elaborate; here is a two page letter about what is going on (sorry for the length)

(in Microsoft Word Program this letter is actually 2 pages)

Dear; those who care to read this:

I would like to merge our goals and efforts towards affecting massive positive change while remaining neutral. I propose the following:

I am presently very concerned about the direction that things are headed in the government (as many are and have been for some time). Perhaps you have heard about the rumours and movies such as Zeitgeist on the North American Union.

I have had many people through my networks asking me to get involved in starting a protest with a Referendum on the North American Security and Prosperity Agreement as the desired result. This agreement was signed by Martin, Fox and Bush in Waco Texas. There was no debate in Parliament or Congress. Harper signed on in 2006 when he was elected.

Without making this letter too detailed; I am sure you understand what I am getting at. None of this is even addressing environmental situations and so forth. Basically we are so close to the shit going down that a sneeze could break the camel’s back.

But I am an optimist.

So I do feel a need to try and help affect a massive level of positive change. Global healing- even just a little, a little in the right places could go a very long way. I think the solution to our collective problems is not through the government system; what ever particular action they are doing right now isn’t really that important. Point is, this is the best system we have ever had and it’s still not functioning in and for the greatest good.

I have started talking with my contacts across Canada over this subject about being asked to get involved in starting a protest. I definitely feel that we need to collectively speak out more. I would like to see more people taking an interest and action in what the government is doing and how that affects us on every level, including the planet itself.

I am not sure that a protest will have the desired effect. However, I organized a meeting here in Montreal, as well as trying to organize a conference call with my contacts across Canada to address the situation and decide: What do we want to do? How involved should we be? Do we want to get involved in existing organizations who are already trying to affect change? What kind of alternative options might be viable?

I want to do something to effect massive positive change while remaining completely neutral; but I doubt getting a referendum would change much. What will cause massive positive change is people taking the initiative and interest to become truly self responsible and aware of how one is affecting one’s environment. When the greatest good is the intended goal, one is always thinking of the whole when acting for the self.

My idea is this. I have two ideas actually and I would like to have your involvement.

1) What if we get a thousand people per major region in Canada as well as many other places around the world to gather and fulfill a format along the lines of the following: Create a sacred space, use brain wave music, build the focus into an intention and then release it. Meditation and visualization I think should be included. What if this is what we use as a means to affect massive future changes to be positive changes?

We could discuss amongst ourselves what type of world we want to live in together. I would like to reach a point collectively where we can choose a simplified symbol/visualization. One that could bring planetary healing and solutions for the most challenging and immediate global threats. I am myself still struggling to find the specific word or phrase to express what it is I feel. But I know there has to be something we can do to massively create a healthier, happier world.

2) If we did do a protest, my suggestion would be to swarm the business districts and the other populated areas as people of joy, coming to ask people questions. Let's not be one more force trying to tell everyone how to think. Let's engage them intellectually, provide them with a few basic facts that the media are not covering (but should be) and leave them with new sources of information, possible ways to actively deal with things as they are. If we can at least get the public questioning and talking about what is going on, especially in an optimistic way (people need to know there is realistic hope or they will shut down and not participate in any sense); that itself will do a lot. It is harder for the government to be naughty with suspicious agendas if everyone really is actually watching and aware.

I have more thoughts I could share but I won’t because this letter is becoming epic. I hope you will seriously consider how we may be able to work together towards affecting massive positive change.

Please respond with your feedback and tell me what feels right for you. If you’d consider getting involved and if so, to what extent.

May all the splinters be facing the right way.” – Irish Blessing
