Melon, Mtl- Electro Breaks

MELON MIX-- [ www.hybrid.concordia.ca ]

Having spent his teenage years in the isolated wilderness of Northern Ontario, Melon staved off boredom and dementia by seeking out and exposing new sounds. He quickly developed a healthy vinyl addiction and became obsessed with the baser elements of breaks and electro.

In an effort to expand his perception of, and influence on the rest of the world, Melon relocated to Montreal in 1999 where he met a group of like-minded artists, which became the Broken Crew. Since then Broken Crew have been relentless in their mission of exposing Montreal to the freshest breakbeat sounds.

They have presented events with international guests Marty McFly, Czech, Robb G, D-Monic, Myagi, Mickey Finn, Aquasky, Deejay Punk Rock, Kemek the Dope Computer, Tipper, Simply Jeff, Dj Icey and Smithmonger in venues throughout the city of Montreal. Broken Crew have also played along side Uberzone, Lee Coombs, Atomic Hooligan, Ali B, Freddy Fresh and Kool Herc.

A self described "dirty breakbeat punk" Melon seamlessly mixes sets that combine raw electro, dub, funky breaks and hip hop. His passion for music is simple; it's the one thing, through out all these years, that has never let him down.

The name melon is derived from an old proverb:
"A woman for duty,
A boy for pleasure,
But a melon for ecstasy."

Melon can be heard on his weekly show Your Radio is Broken, every Saturday morning from 4 am to 6 am on CKUT 90.3 fm in Montreal [ www.ckut.ca ] with Rhys Taylor and is a Bi-Monthly resident at Montreal's legendary Stereo Nightclub.

Accomplice, Korea,(yes Korea)-Ragga Freakin Jungle

Accomplice Mix-

Toronto born junglist, Jamieson Bruce migrated to Montreal in 1997 with genuine intentions to expand his mind at McGill University. An old school hip hop head and reformed suburban gangsta, though he had been pretending to jock discs since Run DMC was Raising Hell, it was not until his student loans arrived that his insatiable vinyl habit became financially feasible. During the next two years while dedicating a majority of his time producing tracks and building his repertoire of records, accomplice was born.

While the love of dancing that originally attracted accomplice to the electronic music community shines through his sets, he could not be described as an emotionally limited artist. As a cultural studies theorist, his sets are always thematically informed. Specializing in hip hop influenced old school jump-up, ragga-jungle, dancehall and adult-contemporary mash-up, accomplice's purposefully constructed presentations of music can invoke a distinct sense of catharsis; an overwhelming experience that refreshes the spirit.

But make no mistake, accomplice spins for the kids who came to dance. Hip hop heads take note, accomplice has not forgotten his suburban gangsta roots. In the immortal words of fellow iDJ resident, Galaksy, "Catch him with his jump-up ghetto flavas, it's sooo good." When spinning, accomplice focuses on his own production and exclusive dubplates received from his colleagues from around the globe who are in the upper echelon of the electronic music community; his sets cannot be duplicated by any other. When listening to accomplice spin, expect to dance.

Having previously held down residencies with iDJ, and the Junglist Fridays at Blue Dog, both in Montreal, accomplice recently joined forces with the Breakbeat Massive and is presently a featured resident at two regularly occurring events in Seoul, South Korea and one in Busan, South Korea
