Description:

Om is a weekend-long music and arts festival in rural Ontario being held on June 20-22, 2003. Attendance last year was about 4,200 and this year is estimated to be around 4,500 people. This grassroots effort is made possible by a number of different collective groups pooling their resources to present what has become a convergence point for a large number of audio and visual artists, environmentalists, holistic health practitioners, craftspeople, performance artists and countless others. We pride ourselves on our ability to produce a festival of this magnitude and significance without the aid of corporate sponsorship. Organized to honour community and interconnection, our goal with Om is to foster awareness, and to encourage personal growth through immersion in creativity (see background > mission statement). Every year we look forward to gathering participants from all over North America (and the rest of the world) to share in this experience, people who get involved and are willing to expand the boundaries of what we are capable of doing, through music (both electronic and acoustic), drumming circles, performance art, visual art, theme camps, holistic health & activism workshops and much more. Along with nurturing a creative space, the festival is also directly focused on encouraging environmental and political awareness and sustainable living. Community kitchens, kiddie village, information booths, Centre for Alternative Living Medicine (CALM), numerous workshops and eco-villages are all part of Om. Our hope is that each person who attends will come away with a greater knowledge of themselves and others, and how they contribute to the world as a whole.
