| Description: | this week we have a very special guest all the way from Ste-Catharines ONTARIO, he performed at Flux, in the blair witch chamber, and now he's back, by popular demand, to bring some freaky breaky electro, perhaps tinged with christian gospel samples, early 90s pop, minimal techno, and general fuckedupedness. He's also packing visual accompaniment for his set: live projections designed by the one, the only, yours truly: DJ MACHINE (aka Stinky Marinky the Croatian Sensation) DJ Machine, self described "international player and master of rocking big systems" is known for his unique way of mixing deep techno, sexy electro, dirty house and cheesy classics. Machine's style can be described as raw, dirty and hands on; a lot like kinky sex. As much as Machine enjoys running both gay and straight dance floors, he's also into experimenting with sound and noise at art events DJ Machine, a.k.a. Stinky Marinky the Croatian Sensation, has been working with sound and music for the better part of his life. Playing music that incorporates underground chic with pop sensibilities, he has earned a reputation as a crowd pleaser, playing for the ladies giving it hard and deep yet elegant. He has released vinyl for his own Porno House label, based in Niagara Falls, Canada, and Mono Records, based in Helsinki, Finland. He is currently recording music for Abflug Records, Helsinki based audio and video label, as well as The Polka Dot EP [ ] $ound$) for his own ghetto$Y$TEM imprint, both to be released in Fall 2004. Heavily involved in the arts scene in his home town, Machine is an active member of Suitcase in Point Theatre Troupe [ www.suitcaseinpoint.com ] and the Niagara Artists' Company [ www.nac.org ] which is also the permanent home to his custom built and constantly evolving Jamaican style sound system the "ghetto $Y$TEM". Always one to share his knowledge and secrets, Machine along with friend DJ Dragon teach young people about the art of the DJ at the YMCA and high school music classes with their hands on seminar Turntablist Tutorial. Machine is a member of Vinyl Interventions, a trio of performance based audio artists who work on experimental music and art installations involving vinyl records. In terms of event promotion, Machine organizes events under the moniker POP COM, focusing his energy on Toronto area events. He has also worked closely with other events promoters, particularly Promise, Harvest Festival [ www.harvestfestival.org ] and Om Festival [ www.omfestival.ca ] Machine has performed all over Canada, the US and Europe, on radio, t.v., the net, at clubs, fine dining establishments and lounges, outdoor festivals, concerts and art galleries. At the moment, he is working with a number of Niagara area wineries on a series of events called vine-L which combine fine dining, wine, electronic dance music and video art in outdoor rural winery events. Machine also works with aerobics instructor Sandra Alvarez of the YMCA and Fulton Fitness, creating custom music mixes for strength training and aerobics spin classes. Machine has been voted the best DJ in Niagara for three consecutive years by local media. Marinko has also built a reputation as a journalist / writer (worked as music editor in Pulse Niagara Magazine for many years and runs E$$ $EE PRE$$), collage artist and dabbles as a video artist. Machine is also attending Brock University on a part time basis where he is working towards an Honours Bachelor of Communications in Popular Culture. He currently splits his time between his home studio in Niagara and Toronto - where he continues to create art and perform on a regular basis. |
