IRK

irk is a British DJ renowned both for his word-twisting, culture-jamming scratch skits and mixtapes, and for his spontaneous, high-energy live sets. In late 2009 his musical shenanigans were noticed by bosses at game-changing London record label Ninja Tune’s legendary Solid Steel Radio, and January 2010 saw him secure a coveted guest-mix-contributor spot on the show. This put him in the ranks alongside an astonishing list of guest contributors, including DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, Steinski, Kentaro, Kid Koala, Caspa, Company Flow, Kraddy, Freestylers and many more. His mixes are consistently amongst the most listened-to; no mean feat on a show boasting a twenty-year history of ‘Broadcasting the Broadest Beats’, and whose name Ninja Tune proudly shares with its official mix releases from label treasures Amon Tobin, DJ Kentaro, Mr Scruff and Bonobo, among others.

2010 culminated in his walking away the proud winner of the Solid Steel Guest Mix Of The Year title, a mere 12 months after his first appearance on the show.

irk continues to produce his trademark mixes, lacing only the heaviest beats with his signature comically logic-defying, reference-laden turntable antics. However, the wide support and interest gained from his success on Solid Steel have provided opportunities for extending his reach, playing more live shows in new cities, to ever larger audiences – opportunities he’s making the most of and enjoying immensely. His live performances always impress and often astound; and although you can never be sure precisely which virtual Serato crates he’ll be digging through, the one thing you’re guaranteed is a raucous, massively entertaining, scratched-up rampage through the best the world of music has to offer. Expect the finest breaks, hiphop, drum and bass, electro, glitch and dubstep – the good, the badass and the downright dirty tamed and brought together under one roof, moulded in to an original, jaw-dropping slew of sonic revelry and served up on two Technics platters.

But no man can live on music alone: irk completed a PhD in mathematics in 2009 and spends his free time surfing, skating and snowboarding depending on location and conditions. He currently lays his hat in Montreal. He’s a friendly creature and would love to see you at a show, so go say hi – just not when he’s busy playing – FYI tequila is his weapon of choice ;)

Peace.

Dialect

Straight outta the northern lands of Deux-Montagnes...
Initially influenced by hip hop acts such as KRS One, Native Tongues, Gangstarr, Jeru tha damaja., He began to pursue a hip hop scratch dj status in 97. With the newer generation of "Shit-Hop" emerging from numerous hip hop labels, he became frustrated, fed up, and discontinued purchasing hip hop vinyls altogether.

Still producing hip hop instrumentals, and working with local MC's, Dj Dialect was still unsatisfied with the current "scene" until his first visit to the afterhours. An easy convert to the Break Beat sound, Dialect blends the precision skills of turntablism with an ear for the underground electronic music community. Dialect can be heard spinnin' "Bassline Erectro, Real Skool Breaks, Dirty Disco, Whore-House, Fist Funk, and Drugstep"

Mongoose

Mongooses live in southern Asia, Africa, and southern Europe, as well as some Caribbean and Hawaiian islands. Some mongooses lead predominantly solitary lives, seeking out food only for themselves, while others travel in groups, sharing food among the members of the group. Some species of mongoose are quite intelligent and can be taught simple tricks which has led to a number of them being domesticated, however, they can be more destructive than desired. The mongoose emits a high pitched noise, commonly known as giggling, when it mates. The giggling is also a form of courtship when this animal is choosing a mate. I am the latter kind of mongoose although I am strange in the fact that I live with humans rather than other mongii and can use a laptop. These claws are actually fairly nimble.

+ FORWARD RESIDENTS:

Rhys Taylor, a nightlife legend who has been playing alongside big names of the international electronic music scene in Montreal for almost 10 years now. Holding down "Your Radio is Broken" on CKUT for the past 5 years, throwing Mix Thursdays for almost 3 years, a residency at Blue Dog, Saphir and then Blizzarts with Broken Crew and bringing breaks to Stereo are a few of his accomplishments.

David Rawalia aka Wally, a dj who has been mastering his craft since 2003 and more recently producing his own unique sounds. After promoting rave culture and sound and organizing a multitude of one-off all-nighters, he moved on to the dubstep scene taking full-part in the forward weekly as well as working with the half electronic half band hybrid, RISK.
