Description:

Forward started in the summer of 2008 as platform to promote underground electronic music, filling the absence of a weekly rendez-vous for the alternative club scene. Originally thought out to be a hosting ground for drum’n’bass, jungle, breaks and dubstep, Forward grew and evolved into a night made to showcase a wide array of genres and scenes working with a variety of different crews and artists such as Loetech, Sixtoo, DZ, Da......tsik, Spor and Plastician, to name a few.

Dubstep remains a central focus but Forward is also about bringing people of different musical backgrounds together to open their minds to different styles. By inviting over 75 different guest djs on the span of the last year, Forward gets people to enjoy and discover new artists.

Nitrous

Nitrous (aka D-Joos) is owner of the new Montreal dubstep imprint Monkey Dub Recordings. Well established in the Montreal drum n’ bass scene, he’s played alongside many international DJs such as Concord Dawn (NZ), Kemal (UK), Klute (UK), John B (UK), Panacea (Germany), Digital (UK) and Juju (USA). His history in drum n’ bass goes back over a decade. He first began DJing the genre in 1999, and later founded the “In Da Jungle” production company with fellow DJs Galaksy and Axionfigga, a union that spent five years bringing international d’n’b producers and DJs to Montreal clubs.

I grew up in Africa, “Mogo” from Ivory Coast. I came back in Marseille, Europe, in 1997 to discover the explosion of sound systems. I considerate myself as a true Shaka ites !!! I dedicate my life to sound system culture. I was introduced to “groovebox sounds and live experimentations” thanks to them.

In 2003, I bought my first gear, a Korg electribe, and started to make my own productions. I was really influenced by the sounds I was listening in Ivory Coast: Alpha Omega, Russ D, Jonah Dan, Steve Mosco, Doogie Wardrop, Mark Iration, Denis Rooticall, Jacin, The Scientist, Jah Shaka and of course the big master Mad Professor.Now I’m living in Montréal and I’m still making my own sound, mixing uk stepper, dubstep, jungle, dnb … or whatever you can call it, techno music.

Dialect

Straight outta the northern lands of Deux-Montagnes... Initially influenced by hip-hop acts such as KRS One, Native Tongues, Gangstarr and Jeru tha damaja. He began to pursue a hip hop scratch Dj status in 97. With the newer generation of "Shit-Hop" emerging from numerous hip-hop labels, he became frustrated, fed up, and discontinued purchasing hip-hop vinyls altogether. Still producing hip-hop instrumentals, and working with local MC's, Dj Dialect was still unsatisfied with the current "scene" until his first visit to the afterhours. An easy convert to the Break Beat sound, Dialect blends the precision skills of turntablism with an ear for the underground electronic music community. Dialect can be heard spinnin' "midget fidget, erectro, real skool breaks, dirty disco, whore-house, fist funk" and more.

Rhys Taylor

a nightlife legend who has been playing alongside big names of the international electronic music scene in Montreal for almost 10 years now. Holding down "Your Radio is Broken" on CKUT for the past 5 years, throwing Mix Thursdays for almost 3 years, a residency at Blue Dog, Saphir and then Blizzarts with Broken Crew and bringing breaks to Stereo are a few of his accomplishments.

Wally

Wally est un DJ et producteur de Dubstep montréalais. Initié aux tables-tournantes en 2003, c'est après une soirée mettant en vedette Benga qu'il a une révélation pour le Dubstep. Depuis ce temps, il s'implique dans l'organisation d'une soirée hebdomadaire intitulée Forward, qui s'est imposée comme l'incontournable de la scène Dubstep montréalaise. En moins de deux ans, Forward a été l'hôte d'artistes de renom tels que Synkro, Sixtoo, 12th Planet, Datsik, Spor et Plastician. Depuis 2009, Wally a produit ses propres pièces Dubstep.

mc Ella Grave (w/ Wally LIVE)

Propriétaire de l’ancien label de drum’n’bass Metaphor Recordings avec DJ Spinal et Le Lutin, Ella Grave a graduellement troqué la paperasse pour s’emparer du micro! Sept ans après avoir vendu le label et bâti son propre studio, Ella Grave, alias MC Gen, a eu la chance de collaborer avec certains membres du légendaire collectif Atach Tatuq, pour ensuite être invitée plus tard à faire partie du groupe The Hardsteppers, fondé par le fameux Sase One, en compagnie de géants de la scène Kali, Regimental et Adam L. C’est lors de la prestation ÉPIQUE d’au revoir de Sase One au Piknik Électronik que vient l’idée d’un nouveau partenariat; on la retrouve vite aux côtés du délicieux jeune sélecteur Dj Wally comme mc/vocaliste en freestyle sur des sets de méga bombes dubstep! Depuis l’été 2009, le duo s’est transformé en full band dubstep, avec un batteur et un bassiste qui s’ajoutent, pour former le tout premier projet du genre à Montréal intitulé Risk!
