| Description: | Forward started in the summer of 2008 as platform to promote underground electronic music, filling the absence of a weekly rendez-vous for the alternative club scene. Originally thought out to be a hosting ground for drum’n’bass, jungle, breaks and dubstep, Forward grew and evolved into a night made to showcase a wide array of genres and scenes working with a variety of different crews and artists such as Loetech, Sixtoo, DZ, Da...tsik, Spor and Plastician, to name a few. Dubstep remains a central focus but Forward is also about bringing people of different musical backgrounds together to open their minds to different styles. By inviting over 75 different guest djs on the span of the last year, Forward gets people to enjoy and discover new artists. Forward is Rhys Taylor, a nightlife legend who has been playing alongside big names of the international electronic music scene in Montreal for almost 10 years now. Holding down "Your Radio is Broken" on CKUT for the past 5 years, throwing Mix Thursdays for almost 3 years, a residency at Blue Dog, Saphir and then Blizzarts with Broken Crew and bringing breaks to Stereo are a few of his accomplishments. David Rawalia aka Wally, a dj who has been mastering his craft since 2003 and more recently producing his own unique sounds. After promoting rave culture and sound and organizing a multitude of one-off all-nighters, he moved on to the dubstep scene taking full-part in the forward weekly as well as participating in other events such as soma and bassdrive. **************** THIS WEEK **************** -Mayday [ www.myspace.com ] Mayday spent close to 4 years as resident at the Junglist Fridays Drum and Bass weekly at Blue Dog. She continues to gain more and more recognition through her exploration of the Electro and electronic dance community. If her sets have made her known for one thing, it’s her overall versatility as a DJ and ability to cover a wide range of genres. Mayday has played around North America, continues to DJ regularly within Montreal and has shared the stage alongside artists such as DJ Craze, Samantha Ronson, Killa Kella, Reid Speed and many more. She loves kittens and hates mean things. **************** -Bijoux [ www.myspace.com ] Bijoux is a convicted deejay and recordsmith. She enjoys good techno, real soul and blues, funk, jazz, dancehall, grime, garage, dub, french rap, psychedelic rock, pop, folk, melodies in minor keys and honest unassuming music and people. Her satchel bounteous with black gems plucked from the earth, hand-shapen and hewn, Bijoux's interface is the mixing board. Rotating metallic oxides connect, transform, and vibrate as brains, bodies and souls receive and interpret nocturnal configurations, transmissions from the internal self expressive of deeper forms. Patterns emerge as the dark jewels are fashioned into linear, circular, angular and amorphous structures. Meaning and emotions slip and flow into fibrous strands. Like the alchemist who seeks the philosopher's stone, Bijoux deftly manufactures her necklaces of onyx by night, working in dim light by the code of the Ancient Ones. The roots, the rituals, and her own intuition guide her choices, spontaneity refracted repeatedly generates a perceived shape, our vision of who she is and what she stands for. STARTED TAKING ART CLASSES AT THE AGE OF 6 AND ALSO DISCOVERED AN INTEREST FOR MUSIC AND INSTRUMENTS AT YOUNG AGE. ALWAYS DID FAIRLY WELL IN ART AND MUSIC COURSES. SKATEBOARDING WAS A BRAINWASHING DISTRACTION FROM HIGH SCHOOL. ANY SPARE TIME AT ALL WAS JUST CONSIDERED AS "SKATING-SESSIONS" AND A DESIGNATED VISIT TO THE LOCAL MUSIC SHOP TO BROWSE THROUGH THE MANY DIFFERENT GUITARS AND MIND BLOWING EQUIPMENT. IN 2006, MONTREAL WAS THE NEW DESTINATION DUE TO COLLEGE AND A CRAVING FOR CHANGE OF PACE. TWO YEARS OF FINE ARTS AND MEDIA PASSED BY. BECAME PERFORMING MUSICIAN AS GUITARIST IN A FEW HARDCORE/METAL BANDS AND PERFORMED AT SEVERAL VENUES AROUND THE ISLAND. EVENTUALLY LEFT THE BAND TO CONCENTRATE ON SOLO MUSICAL COMPOSITIONS & PROJECTS.
