| Info: | THE FEATURE FILM ADAPTATION OF Vivienne Laxdal's STAGE PLAY, "THESE GIRLS", OPENS IN OTTAWA THIS WEEK! A link to the official film site: [ www.thesegirlsthemovie.com ] On Friday March 24th, a feature film that was adapted from a play called "These Girls" opens across Canada in major cinemas (Famous Players, Empire, AMC, etc.). It opened last week in QC and will open in the rest of Canada this week! Written by one of XVI's own, Vivienne, we hope to see some support from XVI and the Sundaze crew for an evening at the movies. Vivienne has worked in professional theatre for 20 years (a lot with NAC and GCTC here in Ottawa), and has several national writing awards under her belt, and lots of publications and productions around North America. A bit 'o background: This film was adapted from Vivienne's controversial 1999 black comedy, These Girls. Directed by John Hazlett, it stars David Boreanaz (TV's Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bones), Amanda Walsh (Much Music), Caroline Dhavernas (Wonderfalls) and Holly Lewis (The Newsroom). It's a about three teenaged girls who seduce and blackmail a married man. It's set in small-town Canada and was shot on location in in Shediac, New Brunswick. These Girls premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September and has been touring around North American and foreign film festivals since. It has now been sold to: Canada, US, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Isreal, and apparently, an EU deal is pending... And what are the critics saying?
