Friday May 7th 2004 @ Club v.i.b.e.

In celebration of our first afterhours event, and Ollie's (SNAFU) birthday (Ottawa's longest running promoter - 10+ years!), we have put together a solid line-up of some of the best local house djs, and crowd favorites for the hip hop room, which will ensure a solid vibe in both rooms till the early morning. As our main headliner this week, we have chosen one of Montreal's favorite house djs Rob Brown (resident at the world famous Club Stereo) who gaurentees to bring posative vibes & bagnin beats to the dancefloor.

Davey-John Pacheco (Everywhere)
Akash Sinha (Disco Cowboy / Rhythm Works / Onaversal)

Dan Medland (4PLAY / RythmWorks / Onaversal)
Paolo Michelli (4PLAY / Velvet)

We are proud to have Montreal's Chicago house master Rob Brown as the special guest for our first special event. Here is his bio…

Rob Brown is the kind of guy who plays by his own set of rules. In an industry where many DJs get booked due to the merits of their production work, Rob stands out as a DJ who has played across North America and Europe without a single production credit to his name. No production credits, that is, until now. With releases about to drop on labels such as Odds n Ends and Muzique Boutique, as well as several other projects and collaborations in the works – 2004 looks like it will be a promising and pivotal year for the already busy DJ.

During his 10 years behind the wheels of steel - 27 year old Montrealer Rob Brown has played alongside such Dj’s as Onionz, Derrick Carter, Danny Tenaglia, Frankie Knuckles, John Howard, Q-Bert, Dante, Dj Heather, Afrika Bambataa, Carl Cox, Mark Farina, Terry Mullen, H- Foundation, Diz, Jeno, Kenny Hawkes, Dj Sneak, The Hardkiss Brothers, Tony Humphries, Lil Louie Vega, Terry Francis, Dj Spen and countless others. Rob has also had the opportunity to play all across North America, in such cities as New York, Boston, Texas, San Francisco, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Florida and pretty much every major city in Canada as well as a stop on the other side of the pond.

In his hometown of Montreal he has held residencies at clubs like Living, Angel’s (Way back when…), Groove Society, the infamous SONA (RIP) and more recently – The world renowned STEREO, where he has been playing regularly for the last 3 years. Playing at Stereo, as Rob puts it “It’s a whole different ballgame… The sound system is truly something else... I don’t think there is anything like it on the face of the planet. It (The sound system) plays with you as much as you play with it, which in this case, is a good thing… You truly have to experience it to know and feel what I’m talking about…”

Musically, Rob is not easily pigeonholed. His sets weave together all types of house music with either a reckless Chicago based mixing technique, or a smoother more programming oriented method. Unable to stand still, he is nearly always in the mix, yet he understands the delicate balance between layering sounds to create something new and giving a song room to breathe. He constantly monitors the room and reacts to the crowd in a way that makes even a big room setting feel intimate.
