I didn't go to a party in quite a bit (and won't until my son is old enough, which will be in a few years from now), but from what I see in the FB invites it looks like my favorite genres of music have vanished from the scene. :( I miss the awesome people I used to come across and share a good moment with during those crazy nights, the dancing, the music and the mad fun... I'll be back someday, I'm just taking a break to focus on another aspect of my life now.

Max: ah ben tabarnak, de la voyance gratuite! ahah

Max ahah yes I do! He's still a little nugget, only 2 months old. :) Me and the hubby couldn't be any happier. BTW what's up with you, what's new?

I can't wait to go to a festival with my grown-up nugget, that'd be cool to bring him to Eclipse or something. It could be a nice vacation, outdoors + camping + swimming + all kinds of fun things to do.
I'm feeling renewal right now..

i haven't lived in montreal in forever, so it's hard for me to say, if the calendar on this site is any indication i would say the rave scene is in decline, then again I don't care much, i am approaching my mid 30s and I rarely can stay up later than midnight cause i just fall a sleep...I don't mourn the rave scene, it was beautiful while it lasted for that time between 1992-2012 but all good things have to come to an end. Tastes change, trends change and people change. From what I hear kids these days aren't interested in it anymore, they like bands again...I think the real decline of the rave scene can be traced to the eclipse of vinyl and DJing on turntables...no disrespect to anyone who uses other mediums like CDs but it just isn't the same. The idea of record shopping and hunting that one rare vinyl...there was something magical about that. Now days, you can get any song you want digitally so it's just not the same...I am rambling a little but i guess it's because I am nostalgic for another time and place when the world seemed happier and the possibilities seemed more open. Maybe I am just getting old...
I'm feeling surly right now..

I'm glad for you psyborg :-D

Yes Basdini, the scene got a serious kick in the nuts. The after hour scene too got a decline, only in Montreal there was 7 after hour clubs in Montreal +2 at QC city back in the days. Only the Circus and the Stereo still remain. Btw, I really miss the Aria :-(

The QC rave scene...well, there's no more rave scene there!

Before our scene was HUGE! Ravezone(Qc), Rave Montreal (RM), Montreal rave, [ rave.ca ] running full steam. Rave EVERY weekends, Friday, saturday, even sunday, sometime even more than 1 party per night and we had also nights in bars during the week.

We had "sub-scenes": Happy hardcore/candy, Hard-tech, trance, house/techno, goa/psytrance, name it! It was really diversified.

It was the golden age

Then 2007.

I think it was the year that everything started to go south.

-Many big rave promoters left
-Penury of venues and the ones we got was not always adequate.
-The amphetamine speed/E disappeared, the über crap pills that we have today hit the market.
-Our population started to get smaller and smaller, meaning less parties and forced website like Rave Montreal to close down...with their events
-I guess a combination of the above made the sub-scenes, especially the Candies, to disappear.
-Domino effect for the rest.

I agree that the scene of today is really meh compared with what we had before.

It's not beyond repairs. Seriously I don't think we can rebuilt the raves "golden age" but with some efforts/participation, publicity...lot of, more people like Hugo and Kandi nights that work hard to make decent parties with a good vibe. Our old rave scene didn't appeared by magic :-P It was with people, commitment and passion. A relaunch of [ rave.ca ] is underway. I hope for the best.

*cross fingers*

here's how i see it:
EDM is a lot more present today, electronic influences, dubstep, they can be found in a lot of new pop/radio songs, events such az Picknick and Igloofest are getting bigger and bigger, lots of clubs and bars have electronic music playing, dubstep and electro/techno/minimal specially, places like the Telus Theatre, Metropolis, New City Gas host a ton of events with big names and they end at 3am, a reasonable time to go home and get to bed...

Going to a rave isn't as special as it used to be, booking a big name for a rave is not worth the risk when you can do an event with proper promo in a legal place that closes at 3am..

I think a lot of people don't even know most of the djs playing, they're just going out to have fun regardless of the artist on stage, they don't have to wait months and months to see that special dj coming from the UK or wherever because they don't care enough to know who plays the music..

I've actually been saying recently, perhaps we need to bring 'headliners' in for club nights only, to make it more viable and keep the music alive (an exception would be Halloween or something extra special). Keep the raves smaller and local, they'll be easier to manage and harder to bust, and that would keep both the music and spirit alive, and give DJs more gigs too... IMHO.

The scene has been in decline since 2002-ish when all the crazy busts started, it's had its ups-and-downs throughout this period, but will never be back to the way it was -- just like the '60s are never coming back, heh ;)

The scene as it is now, I don't mind it, though promoters seem to still be losing money -- I think scaling down a touch and keeping our out-of-town heroes for more viable club nights is where it's at. I think it'll help at least stabilize things, though like I said, getting back to 2001 is a pipe dream. That said, I do see alot more young people involved, and so the since ain't totally dead! :)
I'm feeling you up right now..
