I know it's a subgenre. That's why it's not the same thing. A kid is not the same thing as its father, even though they are both issued from the grandfather.

Actually a subgenre is exactely that

Jungle is a form of drum n bass, therefore jungle IS drum n bass

Geez guys, do your research

DnB is the sub genre mate. Jungle evolved from breakbeat hardcore In the early 90's.
Recoil n myself play mostly oldskool tracks from 93-97. Nicky Nutz plays and produces mostly new school ragga jungle which you really can't classify in the same realm as Dnb either (reggae remixes heavy on the amen)
RCola is more of a dubwise jungle producer.
I'm feeling ez sessions monday wut! right now..

I know the history Craig you dont need to explain it to me

I'm not gonna get into details about what each subgenre is and which one adds more ragga vocals which is essnetially the only major difference, needless to say jungle and drum n bass are essentially the same thing.

The only reason some people stopped using the word "jungle" and started calling it "drum n bass" in the early 90s was because some people considered the term "jungle" racist

If you want to be really specific though, jungle and drum n bass are really just subgenres of breakbeat music, which is what jungle and drum n bass are to me, two subgenres of breakbeat, its the main reason I've always played these styles in my breakbeat sets.

Beatles' "I want to hold your hand" = Cannibal Corpse's "Fucked by a knife"

guitar + drums + singer ... all the same! :P

Actually most "songs" pretty much all follow the same structure

They are both essentially rock n roll, just two different subgenres

Obviously all styles of music are interconnected -- just like all paintings are rooted in cave drawings waaaaaay back in the day ;)

But the subtle differences are what makes a style its own, and it's those differences that a person relies on to decide if they like a certain style or not. My Dad loves the Beatles, but I really really doubt he has even an ounce of appreciation for Cannibal Corpse ...

If all music has X amount of common points, then why do people prefer one style over another? The answer to that question is also the point of why sub-genres exist.

Exmple: In hardcore, there are many subgenres (that even i think gets exaggerated) but there is a huge difference between some of it's off-shoots, ie. Gabber (160 bpm, military riddim, phat epic synths) and Speedcore (220+ bpm, straight 4/4 riddim, mostly percussive) ... play Speedcore at a Gabber party, and lose your dance-floor, and vice-versa. (well, usually :p )

So even though certain styles that are closely related have similarities, it's those small differences that define and justify it's existence. I'm not the same person as my sister, despite being from the same parents, a few similar physical features, and being born less than 2 years apart. No ever says "hangin' out with Nathan or his sister, same thing" .

:)
