and i danced shirtless to expose something - not just my boobs... but the fact that people are scared of being judged.

i am strong enough to do it, and sometimes it's all you need. someone that can tell you, go ahead, you're free, no one is gonna hurt you.

maybe you'd like to see boobs in a party. maybe mine don't please you, i don't care, i did not do this for you and i like my boobs, so i don't need your useless judgement. but if other women see this and see that it's safe do do so without being judged, you may see more freedom at parties. and see boobs that make you feel good when you look at them.

and it was really hot at that place. it just felt good to dance shirtless. you guys can do it all the time if you're too hot...... in ontario there are no laws against being shirtless for women, but in quebec it's actually illegal.

so, hm... just don't insult me. i've had the courage to do it. i was trying to open a door for other women. and they were not exposed... i had some electric tape X on them. ;)
I'm feeling psexychedelique right now..

It's Zimmermau5.

I've been partying longer than 5 years thanks, and you can talk about festivals all you want. They aren't raves either, they're FESTIVALS. Just because the type of music is "widespread underground electronic music" doesn't make it a rave. In all of my experience Psytrancers are so adamant that they are BETTER then the rave scene, and APART from the rave scene. Yet everyone has their panties in a bunch because I think they are two separate events. (Emphasis in the "I"... glad my opinion means so much to all of you.

Actually, I've never been to picknik and from what I've heard that's more the club scene. Just becuse I like Deadmau5 doesn't mean I'd consider those parties raves.

To me Raves are Hardcore, Happy hardcore, hardstyle, hard music in general. It's people that follow PLURR even though they say it's dead. It's people that hop in a car to travel all around the country for their favourite DJ's. The happiness that comes with it. The bright colourful clothes and the friendships that are made. We're the misfits in society, we don't judge each other. Maybe it's people like my brother who make me feel the way I do about the Psy scene, I'm different... so I get judged, I wear bright colours and I'm a happy outgoing person. It's when I feel like I'm being judged because of this I feel the need to stand up for myself and the people like me. I always feel that way when I'm around Psytrancers. I get dirty looks, or even worse, I see when they're Making fun of my friends and I. I don't experience that when I'm at D'n'B nights at the clubs, or at house nights, or even house parties unless there are people from the Psy scene around.

It's like 'trancers preach love and peace but they stand around judging everyone else. Maybe that's just in my experience but that's why I see such a difference between raves and Psy parties.

or maybe it's all in your head, cause i didn't fell none of that so far. And what you describe to be a rave, is exactly what i saw in psytrance RAVES. So could it be the other way around, like YOU are the one judging "psytrancers" ?

And what about dark psy... would that be appart, or would you still consider that as being part of so called psy-parties?
I'm feeling overall good =) right now..

There is actually an existing division between the darker stuff and the normal stuff within the scene, created and sustained by the psy community itself. Go figure ..

The first raves I went too in the early 90s were either in clubs or warehouses. The only distinction between us "ravers" and the "clubbers" was the dress code and the style of music we listened too

Clubbers listened to what we called "dance" music. We listened too acid house, techno & early UK breakbeat which was also called "hardcore" back then. In the chillout rooms, they would play "ambient" music. Style wise clubbers would wear fancy designer clothes, us ravers would wear t-shirts, phat pants and sneakers.

So this whole idea that raves are about "Hardcore, Happy hardcore, hardstyle, hard music in general" is bogus. Funnily enough those are just styles of music that evolved out of the original ones.

Hardcore evolved from techno and industrial, happy hardcore started as sped up breakbeats, much like drum n bass (which also evolved out of breakbeat), and hardsyle is essentially a fast 4X4 techno beat.

As for psy, well the psy trance scene has always kind of been a distinct scene inside the rave scene. I consider them to be raves just like any other rave, just like a drum n bass night in a club is a rave if you want it to be one.

The main reason people use other terms other than "rave" such as "party", "gathering", "festival", "weekly clubnight" is too avoid all the bullshit and misunderstanding that comes with naming an event a rave. Back in the 90s when raves first started out in Canada, there was a lot of negative press surrounding them...If you said "rave", all of a sudden the authorities would be on your ass. It quickly became obvious that it was much easier to call an event a "party" or "festival" and avoid the drama without compromising the music or the event itself.

At the end of the day, all you really need for a rave is a soundsystem, a venue, some cool lights and some banging tunes.

where does all this politic come from anyway?
it used to be called techno.
acid, trance, jungle, hardcore, whatever, and it was fun to hear them all in the same night without wondering " what do i listen to right now?".
