On the subject of G8/G20 security costs, the Conservatives' report quotes Sheila Fraser giving high marks to the Harper government for prudent spending on the summits. The report quoted the auditor general as saying: “We found that the processes and controls around that were very good, and that the monies were spent as they were intended to be spent.”

But in a scathing letter addressed to members of a Commons committee on Friday, Shelia Fraser said the quote had nothing to do with the summits. Instead, she said, the Conservatives inserted a 2010 comment she made during a CBC News interview on security spending by a previous Liberal government after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

“The comments attributed to me in the [Conservative] report are completely unrelated to G8/G20 spending,” Fraser writes in her letter. “I would appreciate it if the report could be modified as it is clearly erroneous.”

meanwhile...

The Canadian Press reported earlier Monday that the Conservative government allegedly misinformed Parliament to win approval for a $50-million G8 fund that spread taxpayers' money on dubious projects in a Conservative riding.

I just hope the masses actually come out and vote... My boy Jack would stand a chance.

Oh and fuck le Bloc... If it wasn't for them Leighton might actually stand a chance at a minority government instead of having to deal with the lesser of two evils.

I'd rather vote for batman than feel forced into voting for a party that doesn't represent me.

If people would vote for who represents them instead of voting for party X because they dont want party Y in power we may just see change... It's been fucking status quo for over 30 years.

The only way we can see change is to unite the left. If less people strategically voted we would have a cons. majority dont kid yourself.

Well, couple thoughts:

1. The current electoral system kinda forces us to vote strategically, as demonstrated by:

I personally am in less of a predicament, but still.. My choices are Trudeau or Barbeau, but I'd much rather vote NDP. Sigh. Still, there's next to no chance the PC's gonna elect someone in my riding, so I couldn't be happier.

And I'd love a proportional representation system.

2. This citation's been floating around on my fb:

Au Canada, le Parti conservateur actuel aurait nettement moins de chances d'être reporté au pouvoir et à peu près aucune chance de gagner une majorité gouvernementale si la tranche la plus jeune de l'électorat se présentait massivement au... rendez-vous du 2 mai.
-Chantal Hébert, Le Devoir

So go vote, guys :)

I'd like to know the issues the Bloc voted that piss you off so much ; I highly doubt the Bloc ever voted that the language of the majority be overthrown by the minority (ie: Franco-Ontarians take-over with French).

Has absolutely nothing to do with language or separation or anything like that.

It has to do with the party being a big fucking joke that takes a ton of votes away from parties that actually can and want to be elected into power. The Bloc will NEVER-EVER-EVER-EVER get elected... EVER.

So, this whole separatists dream can stay where it belongs: the provincial elections. No one in his right mind outside of Quebec will vote for them, it's a complete waste.

I hate that party with a passion, it only helps the right in the end as the ideas of the Bloc are pretty left winged... thus taking votes from the NPD.

I personally have no problem with a regional party. In my humble opinion, the Conservatives are pretty much that; they represent mostly Western Canada's vainglorious ideology.

^ yup, Jo ... It's a problem that most of the parties seem regional :/

But I like the Bloc just 'cause they're the pain in the Cons & Libs' asses ... but no I don't usually vote for 'em.

I'm not sure though that if they didn't exist everyone 'round here would vote NDP though .. they'd probably just vote for, well, Batman.

Anyway, just be happy we have more than 2 choices! xD

On a side note, one thing I hate is people telling to vote or not. Who I vote for and IF I vote are no one's fucking business .. so don't be inviting me to join those FB 'Cock the vote' type vents :p

Bah, as argumentative, hard-headed and hot-headed as I can be, I actually do care what others have to say as long as they're arguments are well thought out. (which I dont doubt in your case)

@ Masa: They don't call themselves the Alberta Coalition or some shit like that and their goal isn't to remove a province from Canada. Not that I am against separation, I actually think it's a decent idea if well planned and executed. But that has no business in national parties...

If Duceppe ever gets elected his first order of business would be separation. It wouldn't be health care, unemployment, the environment, families... no it would be a big fuck you Canada I wanna GTFO.

Makes no sense.

@Na: If you choose not to vote, i hope you void your vote instead of simply not showing up. IMO, people who dont vote dont have the right to complain about the government. They forfeit that right by not giving enough of a shit when necessary.
