Children At Festivals......

I recently asked my sister if I could take my nephews to open mind with me this year (they are 6 years old) And she was dead set against it. Even after I showed her the website and all the kids activities and assured her that there would be many other children there.
Not only did she say no but also asked me how could I even think of doing that.
I personally think they would have a blast, but they are not my children so it`s not my choice.
But I wondering what other people think about the idea of bringing children to festivals like open mind?
I'm feeling pensive right now..

Ya but there is a whole other side to festivals like open mind, like art and jam sessions and alabyrinth and so much more. I wouldnt take them to the dance floor at 4 a.m

Kids are going to have a blast watching the adults on drugs hogging the inflatable parks and other toys available.
I'm feeling [__insert emotion here__] right now..

I agree, it's absolutely fucking stupid to even think of bringing kids out to a festival. Thousands of people, a good percentage of which will be totally fucked out of their minds on various mind-altering substances... GREAT environment to bring kids, yeah!

And lets not forget the loud-as-all-fuck sound system. Kid's hearing is still developing up until their mid-teens and is fairly sensitive. Exposing them to a weekend-long amount of unsafe-levels of sound is irresponsible and, well, stupid.

Yeah... kids shouldn't be exposed to the kinds of people that are there and the things that they do. Did you hang out with hippies on drugs when you were 6 years old? I didn't! I love festivals and I love kids but I don't think they mix.. especially not a psytrance party. I even see kids at eclipse and I mean they're having a blast that's for sure but id have to say it's bad parenting to keep your kid outside in a tent for a few days sleeping on a blowup mattress eating not-nutritious food because you cannot make fires to cook. They're still young and naive meaning they're oblivious to the world and especially to festivals and electronic music... and who really wants to babysit? I mean, I even feel bad walking past a kid if i'm holding a cigarette.. Let not tripping out dressed up holding a beer bottle at a festival.

Don't decensorise , you know?
I'm feeling the sunshine right now..

Not only that but with such a large environment and so many people... I can't wait to see how many kids get lost on the premises or in the surrounding woods.

I can see a bunch of 8 year olds from here :

- Look ! I just found these candies in a small plastic bag !
- Ooooooooooh. Colorful. I wonder what the blue one tastes like...
- OH ! OH ! OH ! ME TOO ! ME TOO ! I WANT CANDY TOO ! I want the orange one !
I'm feeling [__insert emotion here__] right now..

a festival like open mind is not a rave like most people would imagine, and i totally see the place for kids in that kind of event.

there is no problem with such things as 'dangerous sound levels' if you don't bring them where the sound is... just play on the beach, you can still hear the music and dance, but you're far enough that it's not dangerous at all...

from the art space, you can barely hear the music at all, and there is camping space close to the chillroom where things are really quiet.

so yes i really like that there are kids at this festival, but it's each and every parent's choice in the end. bringing kids to a festival is living the festival in a total different way. not taking any drugs is a must, and most probably not dancing at night, and spending the day taking care of the kids, doing the activities with them.

open mind has a programmation that is varied and full enough that you won't get bored though... it's just a different way to live the experience. but yeah most people are not aware of how things are happening really, and have prejudice because of the known use of drugs on the dancefloor.

bringing kids to a festival like this can also greatly change their perspective on things... and maybe some parents don't want to deal with how it will affect them. it's a lifestyle choice, i think...

but i know that kids when i see them at festivals, really love dressing up, and the blacklights... and the bubbles at open mind last year... :) :)
I'm feeling excited !!! right now..

Is the dancefloor going to be restricted to kids ? If not, that works if parents are smart enough to avoid the dancefloor... but I'm 100% sure it'll end up like what SourUltraFast said anyway.

I'm sure EVERY parents there will be doing exactly that.

Don't mean to focus on the negative here but not everyone deserves a Parent Of The Year award and I'm curious to see how this festival is equipped in terms of injuries, lost children and against those 3 parentless kids that keep running all over the place unplugging wires behind the DJ booth all the &#%$ing time.

You know, in a way that's a great analogy, because generally the people who claim that others are "not open minded enough" to "get" certain concepts are the people trying to indoctrinate you away from your beliefs and into theirs.

well as a kid i only remember dancing having fun and be impatient to have the motherfucking gift they were giving to the kids each year..

nothing bad happened to me and i have a pretty amazing life now... but yeah the volume wasn't the same and they were listening charlebois.. isssh ;)
