This is my option on religon

It is evil in nature...so much evil has been done in the name of god or gods.

yes like most things in life there is a good side to things, but religon has split us up. nationality & religon is behind most of the wars.

can we not just be humans in socity in peace?

i myself am seriously pissed at the catholic
church in quebec for keeping the population under
their mantle and instilling seriously silly
things into us for generations.

It's bad enough that they created a whole subculture of glorifying the farmers and the settlers, and saying that city people were all a bunch of evil people and stuff. That's the only thing i found interesting in my cegep litt class really.

for myself,i tend to believe in the notion that there's a big karma counter in the sky taking account of things and ( hopefully) setting things right in the long term.

ok ok ok

everyone who blames religion for the world's problems.

DID IT EVER OCCUR TO YOU NUMBNUTS THAT RELIGION IS OPEN TO INTERPRETATION?

Why do you think there are so many subdivions of the three major religions?

Just look at christianity:

Protestant
Catholic
Orthodox
Prebeterian
Mormon
Anglican

and there are many more.

Infact, I bet NONE of you can point out ANYWHERE in the three major religions (Islam, Judaism, Christianity), something that says to kill everyone of the opposing religion, to launch "holy wars", ect ect ect.

Religion is used as an EXCUSE by HUMANS to benefit themselves and/or their cause. If the religion doesn't perfectly fit their needs, it even gets modified a bit and a new subsect of the original religion is created.

I'm gonna take my electronic version of the koran and install it on my palm pilot so i can read it.
I heard that the koran is actually a very interesting read. I'll try to see if there's any mentions of jyhad or holy wars in there.

All religions are about one thing more than anything else: Being right.

Religion is about THIS is what EVERYTHING is about because WE say it is.

If you are RIGHT, then everyone else who doesn't believe in the same as you is WRONG.

Take two people who have been brainwashed all their lives on diffrent religions that THEY are RIGHT and that everyone else is WRONG and make them talk.

None of them are going to back down, and they are going to defend their beliefs no matter what, because to each one of them, THEY are right and the other is wrong.

There is no compromise, there is no middle ground of any sort. If you do not believe in what their religion teaches, YOU ARE WRONG.

The concept of having religions is what has seperated humans all over the world. By having a few diffrent sets of "rules" that are all RIGHT and every other is WRONG, you cause seperation of people. "Enlightened" people feel superior to those of other religions because the other people are so ignorant as to how the world functions. It leads to people insulting each other's inteligence and beliefs, which turns to anger and hate.

There is no single cause of war and the seperation of man than the holy bible, the koran, and the bagva gita. They don't SAY "Hate everyone else and go to war against them", but the simple fact of having diffrent sources with diffrent sets of rules and beliefs say that they are right and their followers are right causes hate and seperation of mankind.

Thus, it is the fault of mankind that wars over religion are caused.

this is all extremely subjective.

furthermore, it'd be better if we all made certain distinctions instead of generalizations - my personal belief is that there is no good and evil, right or wrong, good or ungood, whatever polar opposites you can come up with - that exist independantly of each other. everything needs to possess a certain harmony to exist. there may not always be balance, there may be a struggle, but the concept is fundamentally the same - you need one to have the other if in any case these subjectively "true" ideas exist.

now, "religion". we're talking about "organized religion". not faith. not belief. we're talking about dogma and doctrine, and the people or organizations who propagate it.

the dogma and doctrine of any particular religion is a necessary crutch for human kind, why? because very simply we're a weak, scared, easily humbled, easily angered, easily manipulated species of bipedal mammalian creatures who claim they can think and act of their own free volition.

to that i say don't blame religion, don't blame holy books or whatver higher or holier or omnipotent diety(ies) there may (or may not) be. blame yourself. because the end result is still the same, you do not know what comes after this life, the only thing you can be certain is is that yes, you will die. too fucking bad joe blow, you're stuck with that fate... unless of course you want to discuss philosophy insofar as our reality is concerned... but then that'll just support what i said;

subjective. don't blame them. blame yourself. if you are a sheep, wolves will find you and gnaw at your carcass long after you're gone.

We're easily manipulated because we are ignorant. But religion was born out of a quest for knowledge that, at the time religion developed, was strong. But at that time we lacked resources to find that knowledge.

so under the assumption we have technological resources available to us now, does that mean technology is rapidly become the new religion?

religion never 'developed' exactly. ritual was around in the paleolithic, rituals used to assure good hunting, and eventually crop yields once settlements were established. today people like Buckland refer to it as sympathetic magic. "Faith", if you could call it that wasn't initiated for knowledge - it was there out of necessity.

i'm spiritual but disagree with organized religions...even the concept of organized religion has been warped from the start. It's based on power, money and control and there's a hierarchy.

I don't need a "holier man than myself" to tell me what is right and wrong. I can tell all the jesus jokes i want because my god has a sense of humor. We are him and he is us and we are everything.

Organized religion can be a crutch for some people...a drug of sorts.

Just remember that man's organized religion,wars,hate,judgement,dominance,etc...has nothing to do with spirituality.

Man trying to claim dominance over the unknown is always bad news.

hey spooks!

thats not true... ive been "brainwashed" my whole life thinking christianity is 'right'... but if someone comes up to me to tell me that what i believe is wrong, then of course i'll argue with him... i do believe that my beliefs are right, because all beliefs are... i would never say that HE is wrong though, just because i think that i am "right"...
i actually put thought into my spiritual beliefs, and ive made up my mind... dont say that im brainwashed, dont say im wrong...
if i said that your beliefs were wrong, would you not fight it and say that theyre not? well then you must be brainwashed too !! youre saying that YOU are RIGHT, and I am WRONG!
its all about perspective and believiung what you see to be true...

most religions teach that their god is worth dying for.

they also teach that their religion is right, and anyone who doesn't believe will go to some kind of hell.

can you guess what happens when you mix the two together? and don't tell me various religions don't preach intolerance..

dino you remember when i rbought this up at school how the last time i went to church the priest gave a sermon talking about a christian talking to an athiest, and the story went:

the athiest went to the christian and complained: "how come you christians get all these days off from work with christmas and easter? how come i can't?

then the christian replied "sure you do! april fools day!"

if that isn't a bigotted comment, then you really are too blinded by your own religion to see it.

You speak of Rastafari,
but how can you justify
belief in a God
that's left you behind.
You simply fill the gap
between the upper and lower class
and your faith merely keeps you in line.
An amalgamation
of jewish scripture and christian thought.
What will that get you?
Not a fucking fuck of a lot.
