So yeah my 500GB WD Caviar SATA Drive FAILED and it seems like I could
have lost all my precious data wich involved yeah around 340GB of porn...but
its not like it was all porn from sites that I could just go and
d/l again from the internet, It was stuff that I recorded myself in the last
3-4 years worth over 30000.00$ of my hard earned money and of corse I
didnt expected my HDD to crash down on me so I didnt had time to back up any
of my data.

I found a data recovery center in montreal who might be able to help me
recovering my data starting at 450.00$... and haven't tried yet to stick it
in another computer to see if I could be able to do it, Im pretty desperate
about recovering my data, yes theres some bad sectors on the disc and I tried
a program called "HDD Regenerator 2011" wich took over 56 hours to supposedly
recover the bad sectors and regenerate all data wich just screwed everything and now
my winxp just saying the disc is corrupted and unreadable.

What i'm offering is 100.00$ to anyone on this board who is capable to recover
my data, I have a 2TB external HDD with 1.33TB available on it so theres no worry
of just copying the data then throw the 500GB in the garbage if you can access
the data, it would save me the 450.00$ minimum that the data recovery center is
asking.

I don't understand why people don't have backups of their important data... Hard drives (especially 500 gig ones) cost like nothing, maybe 25$... For peace of mind never take the chance.

people need to backup at least twice a year ; if not they'll learn the hard way.

If companies don't do very important backup, you'r still impress normal people won't do it ?

Most people won't do any backup since they don't know their data could be lost.

I think it's "almost" true... a lot of people don't think about it, that's the same reason why they get an iPod video with 32,64...160GB of data on and don't do any backup

People should lost data once to care about... sometimes twice...
I'm feeling to be determined right now..

robocopy C:\ D:\ /E /ZB /MIR /R:0 /A-:SH

Here is a simple mirror backup script... Run it whenever you want to backup...

It will make a mirror of everything on Drive C to Drive D...

It's best when you have two hard drives of the same size...

Be warned it's a mirror so everything on the D drive will be exactly the same as the C drive after and it will delete files which are not on C which are on D so watch out...

If you use your other drive for files you can do this... But then make sure to backup your other drive.

robocopy C:\ D:\Backup\ /E /ZB /MIR /R:0 /A-:SH

Me personally I do this...

robocopy D:\ F:\ /E /ZB /MIR /R:0 /A-:SH
robocopy E:\ G:\ /E /ZB /MIR /R:0 /A-:SH

My C Drive only has operating system on it... Can be replaced easily...

I prefer this method to miring since if I delete something I have time to restore it.

Or preheat oven to 350 degrees, insert hard drive on top grill, wait about 20 mins, carefully remove from oven ( HDD is sensitive to vibrations when hot ) and let rest of kitchen counter for 5-10 mins.

It'll work like new ! I tried it and it works ! No, seriously, it does.

Now I'm off to spam this shit to every one of my Facebook friends.
I'm feeling [__insert emotion here__] right now..

Here is the backup script for this server... It's a mess... But having the databases, server software and web files on separate drives helps keep the speed nice and fast... I run it almost every day...

robocopy E:\Databases\ C:\Backups\Databases\ /E /ZB /MIR /R:0 /A-:SH
robocopy D:\Websites\ C:\Backups\Websites\ /E /ZB /MIR /R:0 /A-:SH
robocopy C:\Servers\ E:\Backups\Servers\ /E /ZB /MIR /R:0 /A-:SH

You can never be too safe... I always make offline backups twice a month... BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!

robocopy?

hmm.. never heard about that. at least my winxp doesn't know this utility.

wich took over 56 hours to supposedly
recover the bad sectors

btw, there are no such software which can recover bad sectors:)
bad sectors are physically damaged sectors. The only thing software could do is block them,so your HDD spindle will never go in that area and hdd head will never read those sectors. If there was any any data on it you'll lost it. The worst thing is bad sectors tend to growth very fast:(
