not only its an option but its an option you cant use with cd/vinyls.
but i guess its the debate real vs fake djs back again....
and since ritchie hawtin is a "fake" dj i suppose using the sync option is lame.
anyway, i dont have any comissions on traktor sales, still happy with mine and what matter is how satisfy you are with whats coming out of the speakers ;)

Moebius, I kindof totally disagree with you on the mixing point, you don't have to rely on synch to mix for you in traktor, it's an OPTION. And as far as itunes doing the same job, that's just silly, itunes is like fisher price dude, it in no way can be compared to traktor other than the fact that both programs play mp3s...

Furthermore, the Audio 8 external sound card is superior to the serrato box IMO, I've owned both, but if you don't trust my judgement or knowledge, you can always look up what the industry leading dj's and producers say... you can do a lot more with the audio 8 then you can with the serrato box...

Finally, performance isn't just mixing, it's now a level up, so if you start combining loops, samples and efx, you're performing at a different level, in some senses, you aren't just mixing, you're actually live remixing...

word to that. my computer was a little messed up for the past while - but I just got it fixed, reinstalled a driver for the Audio 8, and used Traktor for the first time last night - amazing! no more glitches or skips -everything was smooth sailing. I really just used it to record the mix, cuz the Audiio 8 is my only soundcard. I only wound up playing two .wavs on the timecoded vinyl, but it was very smooth.

I'm looking forward to learning about these loops and efx and whatnot. will I have to buy a controller to use these? definitely something I always wanted to do is to sample tracks and remix in loops on the fly.

saying that you possessed both of them (was it SL-2 ??), I'll trust your judgement on that... But I don't think that using loop sampler, automatic sync and effect is pushing mixing a upper level, this is just a different way to mix. as you said : live remixing.

ok so now Traktor has been working well.. I am using it mostly as an external soundcard for my dj sets.. haven't used the timecoded vinyls in the mix much but they work great.

now my problem is this - and apparently a lot of other people have this problem too, posting about this on Native Instruments forums too with no clear answer from NI on what causes it

I sometimes get sharp pops and snaps coming through my speaker when I am recording my DJ set through the Audio 8 box into my laptop. not even using the timecoded vinyls.. just using Traktor as a soundcard. it sounds sharp enough on my speaker here at a reasonable volume. I can only imagine what those snaps sound like on a big system

so I followed some peeps advice and disabled everything on my laptop, including network adapter before i use Traktor but it kept doing it. some kind of grounding problem maybe with Audio 8 box? whatever it is it essentially ruins an otherwise perfectly good recording. so I have to figure out what the fuck is causing it

here's what the spikes looked like on my waveform - they are very brief but make me cringe to hear em.. after the third spike I just hit stop and had to give up on getting a mix done today. frustrating.

any ideas? PS I am not actually making traktor do anything when it pops - timecode, opening folders, etc etc.. it just does it out of the blue while the normal vinyl records are playing on my decks

Bigger buffer for the soundcard might fix it... Check the cards settings.

usually it's because there's something in the background running. Even if you've stopped most of the things you can think of, you've still got a TON working in the background. It's why most people that use software like Traktor or Serato have it on a dedicated partition where NOTHING but that gets installed - no antivirus, firewall, NOTHING, and you never use it to connect to the network/internet.. Basically install Windows and your sound card's software and that's it.
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

You're absolutely right.
Have fun carrying road cases and road cases and road cases of plates around town/prov/countries/worlds for a crowd that can't hear THE difference and don't give a a flying f..ck about it. Anyhow I still prefer to mix on real Vinyls.

lol true. fuckin hell are vinyls heavy.. going from Ontario to Montreal with that old flight case damn near killed me.. especially after you've been travelling all day, carrying it is such a bitch. but I'm just sooooo comfortable playing my vinyl.. and a lot of tunes I want are only available on vinyl. so buying the 12" is the only way.. after you get the 12, then you can rip the wav and play it on CDJ or however you want.. but there's no gettin around buying the vinyl first, for rare old stuff
