my friend Talixzen is throwing this jam in Toronto, and I am playing it... so I thought I'd cut and paste it up here for him, and let people know.

this is a monthly he does. normally it is a breakcore-themed event, but this one is the jungle edition. so, for anyone who will be in the Toronto area.. if you love good ragga-jungle, come check it - it's gonna be proper!

BassDriven is ohhh soo proud to bring to you a special little something this month. With the likes of.....

Chrissy Murderbot (Sleazetone / Dead Homies / WIDE Records): Chrissy Murderbot is a DJ, producer, and record label head honcho living in Chicago, working across the juke-dub-ghetto-bass-house-disco-rave-step spectrum.... and he's got something special in store for us!
Since getting started as a DJ in 1995, he's played at over 400 events in more than 15 countries, alongside legends like Juan Atkins, 4Hero, Plaid, The Bug, Phil Hartnoll (Orbital), Ghislain Poirier, Aux88, Mark 1, Mungo's Hi-Fi, DJ SS, Legowelt, Remarc, Bizzy B, Kid606, Pinch, and more.
This is not one of those things you can just sleep on and miss.

Debaser (Jungle Royale, [ Ragga-Jungle.com ] Press Up): "Debaser has been a formidable force in Ragga-Jungle since the year 2000 when his dubplates first began being heard on bassbins across North America." ...and he just keep getting better and better. Early on he had some of the hardest breakbeats in the land and continues to ram up the dance today
[ www.djdebaser.com ]

16armedjack (Illegal Records, Sweet Sensi Records, X13): Not only a producer and dub dropping selector, but is also founder of Illegal Records (Canada) and sound crew. Jack will continue to unite sound crews and people bringing the music back into the light! It will take a bullet to stop him from taking ragga by storm, and the rest we'll save for the DUB FI DUB!!!

Recoil (Illegal Records, Pin:kSox): to quote his myspace..."I'm like Clint Eastwood and John Holmes rolled into one... I don't think you really wanna fuck around with me". Sounds nice (:

J-Ryder (Tingz-N-Time, Ruffah Ras): This guy is pure badman junglist. He has releases all over the place.... I found something on grindthieves a little while ago that absolutely blew me away. Big tings come!

TalixZen (BassDriven, E115, special a/v set): One of the founding members of BassDriven, bringing you monthly enjoyment. A ruffneck of all things audio and visual and this will be his debut a/v set.

NinJaH (BassDriven, cBOT): Ragga influence from birth that has developed into a mass of warming sound. Primarily a dj, but this night will include a few originals too!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This one is going to be starting early and going late. Dance shoes required. Another incredible excuse to have way too much fun on a wednesday.......

ahhaaha come on now that's not true. MTL has great parties. I miss it like crazy! can't wait to move back!

though I must say, if you like underground breakcore/jungle jams like, then Toronto is a good place to be ;)

I personally love playing jungle jams thrown by breakcore people. They love the ragga, but I can also throw that dark hardcore jungle in the mix, and they love that too =)

Oh, yeah, I was talking about breakcore*jungle events specifically.. Don't get me wrong, I ♥♥ Montreal parties but it feels like breakcore/jungle parties come around only once in a blue moon.. or maybe I'm completely out of the loop and/or friends with the wrong people and/or with not enough people, either way, it wouldn't surprise me if I was told I've been missing out on subterranean events of < 20 people in moist rat holes all this time. Just wondering if there really is no crew in MTL willing to organize these things or if there's just 0 promotion being done. :/

well a few of the Toronto breakcore crew have relocated to Montreal, so you're in luck. Petra has moved back to Toronto though =( so no visuals from her, unfortunately, unless she does a roadtrip

I think Luke Peril and Jackson and crew need to throw more jams like the W.H.A.M. jam they did in November

those Pinksox cats are maybe my favourite crew to play for. every jam I've ever played for them back in Toronto was super fun and the music is off the hook..

just a really amazing mashup of various styles of strange music, and often in some public place like a park or under a bridge.. and they would sometimes bring free cookies and stuff haha

like the weekly they did at this building on U of T campus back in 2004. every Sunday, if memory serves me correctly... God knows how they got permission from the University to throw a DJ nite in that old building, but it was good times =)

so ya a monthly from the Pinksox Montreal division would be nice! maybe at the same place Silver Dollar place, if possible - cuz those guys are mad cool.I dunno I think it could work for sure...

and a bomb lineup would be:

for locals - Luke Peril, Blackmarket, Fishead and Synthamesk, and Skeeter, Laf-O and Famine from Toronto =)

do it up Pinksox =)

Oh hi guys,

If you want to know what's holding me back from doing anything I have a little list here that I will present in total candour:

1) My computer is dying slowly, the video card is fried on a Macbook Pro I bought in 2006 (year of the faulty battery) and it has drank about two beers by now and one heavy object - so no new tunes for ages, but there is hope. Seven/four crashed my computer before it got all busted up, so I wonder if it being busted up will make it easier.

2) I couldn't hang on to my job (or my hat) because the winter was so depressing I totally lost my shit, and now I am scrambling by on not-enough-money-to-throw-parties-or-go-to-them.

3) Every time I've tried to throw a bash I've had people criticize me on putting it on the same date as some other party doing another style of music altogether, and in fact this last time I ran into a problem where the general lack of communication between like-minded breakcore fans made it so that we had a party conflict between the only two parties of that nature thrown last year. This was horribly disappointing because ideally we would be working together, but I'm just not in a position where I can put as much effort into it as some other people. I have to throw parties once in a blue moon because I do not have the stamina for regular events, and I don't have the money to go out, and most importantly, because I like sleep and I'm really sick of doing drugs, which even at a good event is the only way I can keep from having anxiety attacks.

I agonize over scene politics. I take people not coming when they swear they will personally - especially when I find out they went to another generic event that happens every week, featuring entirely local people. I have a breakdown the night after the event. I can't mix my own tracks worth a shit because I have zero time while promoting to practice and my computer is fucked. I worry about holding a job when I have to try to book sudden three-day holidays, then sure enough lose the job because of three day weekends. I freak out when I find myself designing the flyer myself and then people hold the damn thing upside down and fold it in half before stuffing it into a nondescript pocket. I cry when turntables fail right before the headliner goes on, and he has to go off of winamp and one table. I want to die when people I've known for years are too self-important to stick around and instead mull around at the door just so they can see what the event looks like and say hi to a friend who's djing instead of having the respect to stick around.

There's this underlying elitism that you have to crack through to get respect, people talk shit left and right and then smile to your face, and quite frankly I say fuck that. Fuck having people only show up at 1:30am because they think it's the hip time to show up, wasted silly and basically not really listening to what's going on, just criticizing, criticizing, criticizing. That vibe at other parties where we've all hung out together but for some reason I get respect if I go to your show but you wouldn't be caught dead at mine... hmm... plus I'm supposed to check what other events are on that night when I know quite well most of the people attending it are just not able to deal with 225 bpm clusterfuck for the ears? I know I won't see certain people and it makes me a bit sad because they wind up not getting where I'm coming from, however, that's how it goes.

Anyway I didn't call my events WHAM for nothing. I don't believe in kissing asses or trying to be some sort of diplomat for false values.

THE WORLD IS AT WAR.
EVERYBODY HATES EVERYTHING.
AN ENCROACHING STATE OF ANARCHY.
WHAT IS LEFT BUT MALICE?

Yeah you heard me. Breakcore exists to make fun of your pathetic cliché ridden scenes, and the people who don't get it usually still take "all inside the place" and "on the ones and twos" seriously when we all know MCs sound like fucking apes doing that shit. Breakcore is a mixture of electroacoustics (plunderphonics particularly) and old-school hardcore tomfoolery with a decent dose of amen-rushing rinseout jungle thrown in for good measure. How could you not like that? Can't dance to it? I CAN DANCE TO BREAKCORE. YOU CAN'T. SO PLAY SAFE. (ie stay home and hide under the covers, maybe call your mom)

And honestly I am very grateful for all the bigging up of Pin:ksox and our event there in November. It was a great success, and I was a great depressed. Took me a long time to acknowledge that all those fans existed. By the way though... I call my promotion crew Miasma, and I was fifty percent of the event. Pin:ksox is technically Jackson's half but hey, the name is way better. So I think you can expect us to further forge that TO-MTL peace connection with parties named after horrible things.

Peas!

Oh and I do plan to be at this event, and I do indeed plan to forge that connection.
I'm feeling dorksided! right now..

J Ryder from Tampa can't make it due to injuries sustained in a car accident. so he's healing up and has to stay put for a few days

in his place will be the veteran ragga-jungle DJ C-Rat (Illegal Sound Crew) throwing down a set for us

blop!
