 Coolness: 2603990 | The City Blue collar union will be staging a 24 hour strike as of midnight tonight, Monday August 31. There will be no recycling pickup in the eastern part of the borough that is normally done on Mondays. This sector north of Mont Royal east stretches between Chabot on the west and the train tracks; and south of Mont Royal between Saint Denis (excluded) on the west, the tracks on the east and Sherbrooke (excluded) on the south.
Please note that garbage pick up is not interrupted. Those of you affected by the cancellation of the recycling pick-up please wait till Monday, September 7th (Labour Day) to put out your green boxes. Given the spate of fires in the eastern Plateau in the past few weeks, many residents are worried, even though the last one (Marie Anne et Papineau) appears to have been accidental. As an accumulation of paper and cardboard can be a potential fire hazard, it is best not to take chances. I would like to remind you that at my request certain concerted actions were taken. As of the first incidents, I asked our borough services to work on a common action plan with both the local fire and police stations. I am asking you all for your cooperation and solidarity. Keeping your surroundings clean, maintaining good neighbour communications and keeping a watchful eye should be everyone's priority. When everyone does his/her part we all come out winners. Helen Fotopulos Mairesse ---------------------------- Bonjour gens du Plateau, Aujourdhui, lundi, le 31 août, les cols bleus seront en grève pendant 24 heures. Il n’y aura donc pas de collecte des matières recyclables dans le secteur où elle est habituellement faite le lundi. Ce secteur se situe au nord de Mont-Royal Est, entre la rue Chabot, à l’ouest, et la voie ferrée, au nord et à l’est; et au sud de Mont-Royal, entre la rue Saint-Denis (exclue), à l’ouest, la voie ferrée, à l’est, et la rue Sherbrooke Est (exclue), au sud. Toutefois, la collecte des ordures se fera selon l’horaire habituel. Les citoyens touchés par l’annulation de la collecte sélective sont priés d’attendre au lundi 7 septembre pour sortir leur bac vert. C'est d'autant plus important que, au cours des dernières semaines, plusieurs incendies ont eu cours sur le Plateau-Mont-Royal et, même si le plus récent (Marie Anne et Papineau) s’avère avoir été de nature accidentelle, plusieurs citoyens sont inquiets. Comme une accumulation de papiers et de cartons peut représenter un foyer d’incendie potentiel, il n'y a pas de chances à prendre. Il est opportun de rappeler qu'à ma demande, plusieurs gestes ont été posés. Dès les premiers incidents, j’ai demandé à nos services d’arrondissement de mettre en commun leurs efforts avec le service de police et le service de prévention des incendies dans un plan d’action commun. Je lance à tous un appel à l’entraide et à la solidarité. Propreté des lieux, communication et prudence autour de chez soi doivent devenir des priorités pour chaque résidant.
