As we all know techno is not doing too well lately in America so I am curious to find how many dj/producers, fans and ... are still out there. Especially in the Hard Techno here in Quebec.
I'm one, Yaz, Nivok, Toltech, A_X_Cell,... who else List names, groups,....websites, events.. what ever to have a general idea of the community

a local techno / techtrance label !!

[ www.jesterrecords.ca ] !! :)

it will be taking a more trancy twist but will still release techno in the near future.

there's also, myself : Dj Clown, Octavio Luz (dj and producer), i wouldn't say "Yaz" as a techno guy since he's more of a house producer !!

Sarcastic too !!
I'm feeling white flaging right now..

Yaz use to be in techno as I remember. Didn't have much news about him lately though it's true that he was more on the tech house side.

Je suis pas très au courant des Djs de Montréal (sauf pour ceux nommés dans ce topic) mais Mickos n'est pas un DJ de Hard Tek il me semble?

And Jester records rocks your mom. I still HAVE my Rewire CD and still use it :D

EDIT : If I remember well, Mattwood does play Techno too, even if now he's going into more minimal sounds.

^exact, rawali

moi aussi j'en joue du hardtechno, mais je n'ai presque pas de booking pour ca, c'est toujours juste pour du hardcore... ...i think that not enough people are aware of hardtech; like dave the drummer, ignition technition and all that jazz. it's great stuff! (i play a set of it in the morning once a month on my radio show)

there's also Indica, who plays all sorts of stuff, who would most definitely play some hardtechno if asked...heard him do it before, and it was great.

all in all i guess there's less than a dozen DJs in MTL that play & own the kind of hardtechno you seem to be looking for Techno_Skandal ... it's scandalous! :P ...at least everyone who plays this style seem to be really good at it :P

i love hardtech/hard techno, and agree that there should be more...MORE!
I'm feeling you up right now..

Hard Tek and Hard Techno? There's a difference of genres because of two letters? As I could see, what he calls Hard Tek is what I call Schranz but that's my opinion.

I don't think there is a difference between hard tek and hard techno. Just an abbreviation .. well nowadays you just don't know what is called what. If MC Mario can call his sh..t techno??!!!

"mais je n'ai presque pas de booking pour ca, c'est toujours juste pour du hardcore..."
This is what is interesting there is so much interest towards hardcore (btw I like hardcore) This music music can be more irritating than hard tech over a longer period of time just because of the speed 160bpm and up. When I play hard tech at 145 bpm I can get comments like; too hard, too fast or can you play dancing queen... jk :p

well there are 2 possibilities; There are more people which like music in the 135bpm & down and 160 bpm & up or people just forgot it which is really possible.

We have the Techno Channel Techno.Fm that plays hard techno and want to bring it back also Dj Destro/Marshall and his Noisefloor prod. since last year are trying to bring Techno back.

Indica was more in the acid side as I remember

what about Hardtek?

NTK is running strong in Montreal. We have Zone-33 and Moebius that are huge producers. Mutante is huge too but he's more Hardcore/Speedcore.

HArd techno is around 140-150 bpm usually, like acid tech but without the acid

hardtek is 200-220 bpm usually.

I think the op is talking about hard techno > 140-150 bpm gated kick techno
hardtek-tribe is something else 165-180
what we make is a sub genre of hardtek-tribe, between hardtek(tribe) and hardcore so 180-200 bpm with hard kick-bass. faster then that its hardcore, frenchcore, speedcore etc..
:P

ask the ntk crew, i dont really see the difference between their hard tek or frenchcore or speedcore, personally, im not really into this genre.

but there surely are difference.

and i dont know what shranz is!

the only thing i know is that seismik plays hardtek, and he plays around 200 bpm, and hes great! =)

im pretty sure mutante can point us in the good direction!

Schranz is a style developped in Germany that actually suonds like Hard Techno but...Harder. I consider this genre as a bridge between Gabber and HArd Techno because it's mostly played between 145-160 bpm.
I'm thinking of some artists like Miss Djax, Robert Natus, Peter B, Jon Fleck.
Here's an example.

I know that on Trackitdown, they classify it as "Gabber Techno"

Toltech mixes some as I can see.

but hard tek is faster that that!

yeah, the hardtek/hardtech thing is annoying. But here it is, although it's alredy been kind of explained:

Hardtek has French roots, between 170 and 200 bpm, is less distorted than typical hardcore at that tempo, and tends to have a 'galloping' fell like Tribe...Hardfloor is also a derivative of those styles. I think the distinction is made 'cause hardtek is fast but bouncy and dry, more like sped up techno than hardcore. (though i lump hartek in w/ hardcore, seriously, the difference is subtle, and i think the labeling of it as a different style is more cultural than musical)

Hardtech is more like that British sound, dave the drummer etc., 135 to 145 bpm. Hard techno is a little more general...shranze is a little harder and faster, even borrowing some elements from powernoise imo (but i just discovered shranze recently)

Hardcore, for me, is also very general. it's anything from 1 to 1000 bpm, as long as it's distorted and hard. It then gets broken down into terrorcore, gabber, speedcore, breakcore etc. depending on influence, origin, tempo, and obvious traits (like D'n'B in breakcore, and big epic synths in gabber).

Personally, i hate sub-genres, and it's all hardcore to me :P ...and though hardtech is more techno, it's all in the family...

and yeah, Indica was more acid, and industrial before that...now he'll play whatever (guess he plays electro 'cause that's what peops want to hear), an all around type DJ. From what he told me recently, he has close ties to the Liberator crew and all that hardtech/hard acid scene, and i've hear him do some solid hardtech sets...but if he comes across this thread, i guess he can answer for himself :P

granted, i might be a little wrong on some of this, it still remains a question of opinion in certain cases, and the origins & traits of such quickly growing, and mutating, music tend to blur easily...

:)
I'm feeling you up right now..

so this is from Wikipedia

Yeah I guess it is all what people want it to be... really hard to have a solid answer. So hard techno/Hard Tech from 140 to 220bpm and let's leave it at that :P

there are noticible sonic elements and timbers that will define it to be Harh Tek, hardcore, gabbar,... and sometimes it so combined that it's just hard to say.
