Happened to me. It fucking sucks ! I swear I'm never using one of these ATM's again. It takes forever to get your money back. Go see a customer service rep. at your bank before they close today. Tell them to check the transactions in your account. If you kept your transaction receipts that's even better.

An Interac transaction takes 3 steps to complete:

1. The transaction info is sent from the ATM to it's processor.

2. The processor generates a response

3. The processor sends a response code to the ATM. (either approved or declined)

If the transaction is interrupted after the the processor has generated the approval message and authorized the transaction, the transaction will still go through.

It's called a cyclical redundancy error.

a crc error would be dumped by the server itself.

that atm is not a bank atm and it shows, transaction steps were skipped where in bank ones the assertion is properly configured.

so either tampered on spot or mailordered that ways its still not a machine that should be integrated on the network.

abothside authorisation has to be double handshake in order to be accepted. why again did it skiped that step -ON ITS OWN- ? not like its a computer your pulling the wires out from everyday for your needs . this is a setup box that should have been patched to NEVER do that error or at least flag its in crc error and dump the whole transaction all together.

For an interac transaction, once the approval message has been generated by the processor , it's too late, the funds have already been transferred from one account to the other, and the connection between the server and the back-end processor has been closed. Regardless of whether or not that approval message makes it all the way to the atm.

BTW, if you think you can correct this problem, the entire processing industry would consider you the messiah. Because this exact type of error happens all the time, no matter which processor. And it's absolutely no indication that fraud was comitted.

Is it really that hard to have it only release the funds from the account after a second "Ok we got your authorisation that this guy's got the funds in his account" is sent?

Like... enter PIN into machine, confirm your $20.00 transaction with the pad...

Currently it's going:

ATM: Ok this guy wants $20, is that cool?
Bank: Yeah, he's got the funds, here you go!
*ATM has left the conversation*
*Bank releases funds*

Whereas it should go

ATM: Ok this guy wants $20, is that cool?
Bank: Yeah, he's got the funds. Want me to release them?
ATM: Yup!
*ATM counts money*
ATM: Got it, thanks!
*Bank releases funds*
