Hearing abuot this on the news reminded me Michael Moore's: The Awful Truth episode with the orange day-glow wallets. I guess technically this unfortunate 18 year old was killed by the cops but evidently, speculations would suggest that PS3 should be held accountable.

I don't understand how this is a PS3 fault!?!?! The cop shot... not the inanimated object... If it was a chicken that got stolen, would it be the chickens fault that the kid is dead??? This is just bad publicity against Video game (AGAIN.... sigh. )

I think it's because he had the controller in his hand... They're black, and, when you're breaking in a door and see someone with something in his hand that resembles a gun, you react.

Still fucking stupid though. Way to go cops!

While i don't think the cops should have shot and killed the guy since he was unarmed, keep in mind the guy had robbed and beaten a guy for his PS3 after the guy spent 3 days in line to buy it..

I heard about that story as well and it's really tragic the way law enforcement sues the "kill first, ask questions later" policy but despite what they might want us to believe, their preemptive attacks are not only racially motivated, but they completely neglect that according to the law as it's still written people are: a) innocent until proven guilty, b) have the right to legal council. In this case the cops just busted into the guys place without a warrent, court subpoena, or security certificate and shot him dead without even charging him with a crime!

Imagine getting gunned down by the cops in your own living room for nothing more than playing video games? thats fucked up...

*sigh* right, all of you go ahead and ignore the post of the ONE PERSON who seems to have read the entire article and understands what they police are implying.

...but may have been holding a controller when he went to the door as officers bashed it in.

You've just kicked down the door of someone who may or may not have violently beaten and robbed a person, you see someone with what may or may not be a gun in his hand. Are you gonna ask him what it is? You just kicked his door in, he's going to react just as surprised and impulsively as you are, and if that HAD been a gun, that means shot cops.

They're gonna get a slap on the wrists and issue a public apology, and that'll be that, none of you are gonna remember this in 2 weeks from now anyways because of whatever stupid drama the media is gonna decide to hype up for all your ADD'ed minds.

ok ?

But its still messed up, they shot the Dog for "Good Measure" ???

I'm not saying the Ps3 is at fault here, its definately the kids fault for not dropping the controller and getting on the floor...for sure.

yeah, the only reason people are thinking it's the PS3's fault is because of the deceptive thread title. The actual article's title is "Cops gun down alleged PS3 thief"

Shooting the dog, well, for one we don't know what type of dog it is (could be a rotweiler or pitbull for all we know) and dogs are rather known to get violent when their territory is threatened (by, say breaking a door in), so, there are good chances that the dog was actually attacking the officers, or barking at them, and was a big enough dog to warant them being threatend by it.

Sorry I haven't understood the article as well as you did the first time, but I wasen't reacting about the article.
I understand that it is a difficult situation for cops and I wouldn't want to be one.
My reaction was only to the phrase : speculations would suggest that PS3 should be held accountable (posted by _Phoenix_) with which I don't agree.

After having beaten and robbed someone, do you think he was "just playing video games"? You make this guy out to be innocent or something..

Dude, if anything he was guilty of assault and minor theft. Last I checked such crimes don't merit a death sentence. Why wouldn't the cops have used pepper spray, a stun-gun, or a baton to take him down (assuming he was even resisting arrest when they broke into his place). Tradionally, knocking on the door and following standard arrest procedure is what one might expect the cops to do, seeing as how this guy didn't pose any threat to national security. Instead, they used a "shoot first, ask questions later" policy" eventhough the guy hadn't been convicted (or even charge) with a crime,... The bottom line is that he was a suspect at most and legally, innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The police involved should definitely be charged with breaking & entering, tresspassing on private property, excessive use of force, two counts of second degree murder (if you include the dog which, was obviously innocent of committing a crime), conspiracy to commit murder, obstruction of justice, and negligence causing death... with additional hate crimes if the preemtive attack was racially motivated.
