Experiments on monkeys, rats and mice have shown that high doses of ecstasy cause irreversible brain damage in animals.

In 1998, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) studied a small group of habitual ecstasy users who were no longer using the drug. That study found these users had suffered damage to portions of the brain that regulate critical functions such as learning, sleep and emotion.

It is as if the brain switchboard was torn apart and then rewired backwards.

Ecstasy damages brain cells by causing the nerve branches and nerve endings to degenerate. These cells then regrow abnormally, failing to reconnect to some brain areas or connecting elsewhere to the wrong areas. It is as if the brain switchboard was torn apart, then rewired backwards.

The NIMH study indicates that recreational ecstasy users may be risking permanent brain damage that could manifest itself in depression, anxiety, memory loss and other disorders.

NEARLY 100 STUDIES HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED ON ECSTASY. They show that:

The absorption of even half a pill of ecstasy can cause grave symptoms, as in the case of an 18-year-old girl who needed a liver transplant to save her life after taking the drug.

Ecstasy is sometimes mixed with substances such as rat poison.

Young people have died from dehydration, exhaustion and heart attack as a result of taking too much ecstasy.

Ecstasy can cause kidney, liver and brain damage, including long lasting lesions on brain tissue.

Even a small amount of ecstasy can be toxic enough to poison the nervous system and cause irreparable damage.

Ecstasy can modify DNA structure, causing genetic damage.

The “positive” image that drugs have comes for the most part from the media. As soon as any new substance appears, it is seldom considered dangerous until the harm becomes evident. By then the damage has already been done, and the false idea that the drug is “harmless” already widely accepted.

Ecstasy has been the subject of similar hype. As one media observer noted, “It is almost as though some clever marketing wizard came up with a campaign for it.” As a result, people today have many false ideas about the drug.

So think twice before taking ecstasy from someone who is telling you how great you’ll feel once you try it. Maybe you’re just being sold something dangerous.

Some young people insist the quantity of ecstasy consumed at rave parties is exaggerated. To keep their parents from worrying, they may downplay the dangers of the drug and the damage it can do.

One factor that has contributed to the increased use of the drug is widespread false propaganda that has led many young people to believe ecstasy is no more dangerous than alcohol or tobacco.

Anyone involved in the rave scene will eventually be exposed to ecstasy and will likely begin using it, even if just to experiment. But ecstasy is far from “harmless.” Those whose lives have been ruined by the drug call it “the cocaine of the rave generation.”

It's okay if you don't have respect for yourself but have some respect for everyone else. If you wanna do E, go do it in a park, nobody invited you to the rave scene to fuck it up for everyone else.

Having fun is one thing, but in 10 years, I wonder where will be the fun if you abuse of "good" things. Having fun is important for sure, but having fun should never compromise your future to a point of no return. My two cents.

Well you have a good point but your point is actually defunct because it destroys your serotonin receptors(unlike most drugs that only deplete them) so by having fun and taking mdma you are actually inhibiting your ability to be happy in the future by destroying that which produces happy chemicals. Normally drugs will just make your brain release a lot of serotonin at once but they won't damage the actual stuff that produces and distributes it. Not to get all scientific on your ass. Happiness is something that should not be fucked with, it's the only thing we have to look forward to and from the sound of it it's important to you too. Everything has a price. You usually get what you pay for.

No, it destroys the serotonin terminals, at least in rhesus monkeys. That's what it means they say "Neurotoxic".

In monkeys, exposure to MDMA for 4 days caused brain damage that was evident 6 to 7 years later.
