right don't fill your census.....then how do expect the Federal Goverment to allocated funding to various social programs? You live in one of the friggin greatest countries in the free world and all they ask you to do is to fill a questionnaire for fucking 10 minutes of your time every 5 years.

So next time the goverments slash Education and Universities' tuition goes up, don't bitch at them. The students who don't fill their census declaring that they make less than 10 000$ a year, how much they paid for electricity, etc....The goverment needs statistical data for planning their budget and whatever else.

Recent immigrants or refugees are the worsts people to get to fill the census. They think the Censors are like the Thought police. Listen, StatsCan just what to know how many people lives here. Canada is NOT GOING TO DEPORT YOU!! We want to know because we know how much money we should be putting in our programs for family with low income, to welfare, to etc....

ok that's my rant.

Depends, sometimes if you happen to get the LONG version, they ask questions that quite frankly the government has absolutely no right to know! Certain data absolutely they need for funding and statistical bull shit, other stuff I don't see the need.

they don't have the right to know?
wanna fill me in on what they've asked you that was so innapropriate?

it's not like they save your name and then post this stuff up for all to read. the info is pooled into a big old database and overall stats are made available to all. i honnestly don't see what the big invasion of privacy is.. this sort of thing is beneficial to everyone.

If this data is only for statistical purposes, then there is no need to know a.) my exact address, b) the FULL NAMES of everyone residing at my address just two basic examples.
I took the time to check out the questions this year, and at least the question in regards to Sexual orientation et al. have been removed since same sex legislation has come in.
How do you know where the information with all my personal information ends up.
Oh right, sorry thats right the government would never say one thing and then do the complete opposite, I keep forgetting that politicians are all honest upstanding upfront citizens.
If you are looking for global statictics then I stand behind my previouspost, there is certain info the government doesn't need to know.
Oh and by the way, they can threaten you with fines and jail time, but at the end of the day they can only threaten and menace, you will never actually pay a fine or serve any jail time for NOT answering a survey, we have this thing called the Charter of Rights and Freedoms that prevents just that.
All in favour of statistics that will benefit us all, not in favour of blindly following the government like a little fuckin sheep cuz its supposed to be in my best interest.
Enough insight for ya?

Two federal people will come to your door, they will give out the short or long version. They may look like ordinary everyday people but they are highly efficient Federal killers trained by the CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service). They already know everything about you, what you eat, when you shit, and how many time you brush your teeth. The survey is just a formality.

they ask for you address and name so that they know this isn't being fraudulently filled out..

i'd like to know how the government is supposed to know what it's citizen want if they know nothing about us.. ?

if they find out that there's a lot of students.. more money gets put into education programs.. if they see that everyone's old, they put more money into retirement and medical..

if the government knows something about it's population, it only better helps them serve us.

Help them serve us ? The government ? Wow, that's a first. Where can I see this fabled servitude you so finely pointed out ?

Oh you silly Neoform, you. Get up and smell the overtaxed coffee before a law gets passed by our conservative government to ban it because of the negative effects caffeine has on its decaying population.

>:-)

Not saying it's all negative, just failing to see those tax dollars applied where it MATTERS MOST, that's all.

Well, I can't really bitch at the conservatives as they haven't really screwed up so far, admittingly.

wow
yeah.. the government does nothing for us... they really suck.
yeah...
wow...
we met nothing..
the roads we travel on (while not in the best shape) we natural asphalt formations... nobody built those.. our schools too.. imagine the crazy lava flows that had to go around for our schools to have hardened from PURE lava!!! wow!!
and all those computers and the big rooms.. its incredible how mother nature works...
man.. and dont get me started on those hospitals... i never knew that plants could naturally crush themselves up and genetically modify themselves and then thrown themselves into containers and into magically grown IVs to help keep us healthy..
GOD mother nature rocks!!
the government CERTAINLY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ALL THAT. nothing at all..
lets all praise jesus.

All I can say about the governments in general is in with the good and out with the suck.
And sure the municipalities are pretty dodgy, especially since who knows where the money goes there. In fact I think they give less of a shit about us than both major governments.
People say voting is a priviledge....where we have the choice of electing one douche bag over another. HURRAY!
