All that tells me about the PQ is how they got their priorities fucking screwed up. Canada is coping with a conservative government, a crumbling health system, an avian flu outbreak and a war in Iraq and all these idiots care about is an century old utopian concept.

Very mature of them. Get with the fucking times, this isn't 1983 anymore, a lot more serious things need tending to than fucking seperation. Even the polls show that less and less french-canadians are concerned about seperation. I know I totally ain't.

When THIS is the focal point of your party, you seriously need to reflect on the importance of this versus global warming, rising poverty and, again, a seriously deficient health system.

To me, PQ stands for " P retty Q uestionable ".

Sovereignty textbook tears Canadian flag

INGRID PERITZ

With a report from Rhéal Séguin in Quebec

MONTREAL -- Its boosters see it as Sovereignty 101 -- a helpful educational guide that uses crafts, colouring and exercises to teach young Quebeckers about the ABCs of independence.

Instead, a textbook entitled Let's Talk About Sovereignty at School, put together by a pro-sovereignty group, was savaged yesterday as a masterstroke of propaganda that should never find its way into a classroom.

The Council for Quebec Sovereignty set off a firestorm with the unveiling of a 142-page textbook aimed at "demystifying" Quebec sovereignty for students.

Although not intended to do so, the book underscores some of the benefits of federalism. The publisher, Les Intouchables, says on the book's first pages that the company receives a subsidy from the Canadian Arts Council and support from Ottawa's Book Publishing Industry Development Program.

The book contains 40 exercises tailored to everyone from preschoolers to university grads.

The exercises, however, might raise eyebrows in academic circles.

For example, Activity No. 1 is aimed at kindergarteners.

They are asked to make decorations for Quebec's national holiday on June 24, and the book's illustration is a child's drawing of a Quebec flag on a pole with the Canadian flag beneath it, ripped in half.

Grade-school pupils are asked: How many youth novels at $15 apiece could they buy if they abolished the position of the governor-general, which costs Quebeckers $9.4-million a year?

For high-school students, there's a proposed music class on Quebec sovereignty classics, including Canada is not my country by singer Mononc' Serge and Quebec, mon pays by legendary poet Raymond Lévesque.

College-level students are asked to trace the history of the federal sponsorship scandal, while university students are given the task of calculating how much money is wasted by federal "intrusions" into Quebec jurisdictions.

For fine-arts students, there are activities such as designing a Quebec stamp.

Gérald Larose, a former labour leader and head of the sovereignty council, repeatedly denied the book is propaganda.

"It's a work tool for teachers," he told reporters at the book's launch. But he said schools are inundated with federalist propaganda, including material celebrating the National Library, the Canadian census and the Year of the Veteran.

He said his group launched the book, which sells for $9.95, because sovereignty remains a taboo subject in Quebec.

The textbook left the Parti Québécois red-faced as its political opponents declared it to be indoctrination worthy of a communist regime.

The Council for Quebec Sovereignty was set up in 2003 with a $200,000 grant from the PQ, Mr. Larose said. PQ president Monique Richard is a member and had a hand in creating the controversial textbook.

PQ Leader André Boisclair issued a statement distancing himself from the book and assuring it would never be used in schools under a PQ government.

"This work cannot and must not be considered educational material aimed at children," Mr. Boisclair said.

Liberal Premier Jean Charest described the book as propaganda reminiscent of Eastern Europe under the Soviets, and Education Minister Jean-Marc Fournier called it a publicity stunt that would never be used in Quebec's classrooms.

Réjean Parent, head of Quebec's teachers' union -- traditionally a sovereigntist ally of the PQ -- said teachers refuse to be "propagandists" and would never "launch an operation to brainwash anyone."

The publisher is printing 11,000 copies, with no plans to publish in English.

i think quebec should concern themself more on the hude problems they have in this province. how the hell would quebec surive with such a hude deficit, do they even think about that? do they understand that Canada will stop giving them money? all they will have is Hydro, which would soon after become americian, since this is a province with no trained army, americians would crush them, and Canada would not sacrafice the trading possibilities to save a province that left them

just my two cents about this completely stupid idea

I've never had a rational and logical discussion about this topic with a Separatist. I just feel like I'm talking to a Palestinian about Israel. Arguments are full of logical trap-doors and trip-wires that prevent any possibility of a rational solution and all of my questions were never answered, only side-stepped.

Miller: Quebec has a better economic position than the rest of canada. But with a seperation issue, there'd be a major investment digression because of the initial 10 years of a new country's readjustment for international relations, economic and political (ex: trade agreements), hence making it a little less obvious to plan ahead and make viable business plnas for major companies.

But military issues right now don't mean fuck all. They would invade, but with capital instead. Major digression of investments would mean realy cheap assets could be afforded here, and we'd become american property.

Such as your ass, which already goes realy cheap on the market I hear.

I can say the same about most federalists! ;)
