Apple never made any deals with apple when they released the macintosh.. infact when they released the macintosh, there were no 3rd party developpers..

the first P.C was made by the 3 people who started apple and had no third party developers, but that was before they had a GUI or anything. After that they didn't make their own O.S, or GUI or anything, but they bought the rights to them.

They still deserve credit for inventing the P.C. Bill Gates deserves credit for his 4-bit processors or whatever it was, they were all nerds, they just didn't invent windows.

the macintosh was developped entirely by apple. 1984 was when the macintosh was released, but apple existed long before (8 years) and made computers like the Apple IIe. (which didn't have a windowing system)

Apple never bought the windowing system (the Finder) from anyone, they made it in-house the same way microsoft did. only microsoft did it well after apple, and they didn't get the idea from any agreement between tbe two companies..

ps.

i've seen it.

Directed by Martyn Burke
Paul Freiberger (book Fire in the Valley) and
Michael Swaine (book Fire in the Valley)
Martyn Burke (written by)

None of those are either Steve Wozniak or Steve Jobs.. infact neither of the two were involved in the movie at all.

The movie wasn't totally accurate anyway. Like i said, they were pretty much GIVEN the technology from xerox, apple never stole it. microsoft on the other hand copied it and made tiny changes to make it seem like it was their own idea..

trash -> recycling bin
icons moved to the other side of the screen
menu moved from top of screen to bottom
etc..

GIVEN isn't invented. It doesn't mean they should take the credit.

No, they shouldn't be acredited for "inventing it" but they should be credited for both popularizing it, and making it easy to use.

things like that do their own popularising and if you are gonna bring it into that spectrum, Microsoft is a thousand and one times better then them in the marketing department. However, they should get mass credit for their innovations in the times before Windows, and for stuff after that too I'm sure, for updating it and blah, but I will never accept modern O.S's as their innovation in any which way. The path was created for them and they followed it. It's a shame the inventors get fuck-all, not even a little credit.

microsoft doesn't have good marketters at all!!

hell the only thing they have to do is say "we have a new product, upgrade or we'll stop giving your current version updates and you'll get viruses (because it was horribly designed)" then people HAVE to buy their new products.. having a monopoly means they both don't have to innovate and they don't have to sell their product, it does that on their own..

GOOD marketting is done by apple, how do you think the iPod got so popular? there's loooots of competiters out there, yet apple's ruling them all...

Microsoft is a marketing GENIUS. Everyone should take their example. First of all, did you notice nobody pays for Windows? Did you notice nobody pays for their X-box games unless they really want the original case? Did you notice you can get updates fro Windows no matter whether you have a legal version or not?Do you think that's an accident? No, that's how you build a monopoly. You make it accessible to as many people as possible.

"hell the only thing they have to do is say "we have a new product, upgrade or we'll stop giving your current version updates and you'll get viruses (because it was horribly designed)" then people HAVE to buy their new products.. having a monopoly means they both don't have to innovate and they don't have to sell their product, it does that on their own.."

no, no you don't, you get updates no matter what.

Apple may have done a good job advertising the IPOD, that's true, but part of marketing is takign into consideration that new technology shopuld be patented. Microsoft would never make that mistake. Apple is liek Nintendo when it comes to marketing excepot less fun.

No.

Microsoft said within the next year they will stop providing/creating updates for Windows 2000.. thereby FORCING people to upgrade, this has nothing to do with marketting, this is just them leveraging a monopoly. As for the piracy bit, you are surrounded by pirates, MOST people/companies have legitimate copies of windows. MOST people buy computers from Dell, HP and the other big computer companies, which comes preinstalled with windows.. Hell, even if you buy a computer from one of those companies and asked to have linux on it, because microsoft has a monopoly, they were able to *force* an agreement on Dell (and others) that means they *still* have to pay for a copy of windows on that computer.. EVEN THOUGH IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE WINDOWS ON IT. That is not marketting.. that's a monopoly.

The only marketting windows does these days is "Piracy is bad!" and other propaganda campains that try to convince people to pay for the pruducts they're forced in to buying. Yes you can still upgrade windows with a pirated copy, but that's something microsoft is trying to stop.. the only reason you can do it is because microsoft doesn't want windows' update client sending it's serial number off to the server, doing so would be a huge security risk and would certainly be exploited by hackers. Because of that, the veification has to be done clientside, and not serverside.. and because of that, it will always be crackable.

Microsoft is no longer trying to build a monopoly, they already have one, and they didn't get there because of piracy, they got there because they allowed 3rd party developpers, and they had a cheaper product. That was a good decision on their part (in the past) but they are not the same company that got them where they are. Now they do nothing new, and only update/upgrade their products a bit here and there just to maintain what they've got going for them. Just look at IE vs. Firefox.. they didn't care about firefox, but now that it's got a bit of their market share.. they have to and will crush them. they know all they have to do is release a new version and they will crush the competition.
Just because.. hey, they own the market. they put IE 7 in all new copies of windows, bam they got everyone who isn't willing to go and download firefox.. cause. IT'S ALREADY THERE! :o

As for apple's mistake of not patenting the ipod, that is COMPLETELY irrelivant to their marketting. that's just a bad administrative mistake.

no, no marketing and so on is how they first achieved a monopoly. If apple was better at marketing they would be the ones with the monopoly. As much as you say they don't do it on purpose I believe they do and always have. Microsofts strategy is a very well known and admitted one, cause after one point in time there's no use in hiding it. They set a bomb and they're just waiting for the right time to make it explode.. i.e: making everyone pay and obtaining maximum profit, but they were very patient in doing so taking a long time to secure what they have and then some. Just imagine, if you think they make a lot now.. Now that they've waited all that time even after they had secured a monopoly, it will just make it ten times more annoying for anyone to switch from Windows. Bill Gates said he was trying to use the same strategy with the X-Box, but they're being too impatient with it. Well time will tell.. personally I hope they bomb. I can scan the article if you like, it's kinda funny. He's all happy-go-lucky, trying to be the new and loveable bill gates, heheh.

An administrative mistake liek that is very relevant to marketing cause it defeats the whole purpose of marketing.. mmm money?

The difference being the xbox will never win, it's always been a peice of crap and always will since microsoft is not capable of making a better product than the competition.

the only reason the xbox got any attention at all was because they bought out Bungie and put Halo on their system. if it wasn't for that game, it would have been a MASSIVE failure. xbox 360 will not beat out sony..

I know it won't, or at least not soon, but that wasn't my point. My point was that they are TRYING to do the same thing. Personally I don't think Halo accounted for the reason of most of the people who bought X-Box. A lot of people bought it for the hard-drive or for Fable. So far, teh specs for Sony's new machine are looking about equivalent to teh X-Box, some of them are better, but for the most part they're worse. We don't even know what teh final specs will be yet. Time is on their side, but so far the specs do not beat X-Box's. They basically make up for where the other one lacks.

well who knows. By the time PS3 comes out everyone will already have an X-Box. The hardcore gamers will buy both, and then you have the general run-of-the-mill, I play video-games once in a while, why not buy X-Box cause it's cool kinda guy. The kids won't wanna wait for PS3 cause then they won't be as cool, and parents won't wanna buy them a second machine. i don't even knwo which one is considered cooler with kids, probably the X-Box cause it's the most expensive and newest. I think every gamer I know is getting the new X-Box cause they just can't wait. Although older more hard-core gamers tend to prefer a PS, most of them will prob end up with both. They didn't make money off of the last one and I don't think they're bent on makign money off of this one either. It's an investment few companies are willing to make, and they may just wear Sony down in time. I'm sure they're really makign them sweat. Fuck what is Nintendo doing anyway? I hope they surprise me, but they'll probably just cater to the poor again.
