I don't know what makes this week more "halloweeny", but let's pretend that this week's records are extra spooooooky ok?

[DRUM & BASS]

Clipz - Supa Ugly/Funk Physics VIP on Full Cycle.
The Bristol camp is pushing forward since the release of Tali's LP and her boyfriend Clipz is up next. What can you say about Clipz? The guy's stuff sounds alot like the rest of the FC crew's material at the moment. Big drums, big bass, big wobble. The hooks are really simply and straight to the point...dancefloor business only. Basically when it comes to this stuff either you're feeling it, or you're not. For fans of Roni Size, Krust, Die, Hazard and the like. Oh...and it's spoooooooky!

Sonic - 4 Manchester/Grey Havens on Space.
To be honest I really haven't been feeling alot of Sonic OR Silver's solo material. But I must admit that Sonic has clearly pulled ahead with his more recent efforts. '4 Manchester' is a beautiful deep tune with a building melody that is definetly the stand-out tune here, but my pick is still 'Grey Havens' which uses a classic Ed Rush & Optical break with a very phat bassline to create a hotter then hot roller strictly for the headz. Stay on the lookout for his next smasher enitled 'Dr.Who', which is spooooooky!

Rob Smith - Don't You See (DJ Die Remix) on Grand Central.
More pressure from the Reprazent massive, this time it's a remix featuring some track-saving vocals from Hazel Jayne. The tune itself I must say doesn't stand out that much, but in the end those vocals sink their hooks into you and you simply have to nod your head. That's kind of spooky.

Cyantific - Output/Reincarnation Dub on Hospital.
Tune of week! I am so happy right now...do you know why? Cuz finally someone thought about putting out a record for everyone! No really I mean it. 'Output' takes you on a deep tech-y journey with some sliding synths that constantly build up to total mayhem, the sheer quality of this mans drumwork makes this record a MUST HAVE. But let's pretend that tune isn't even on this record, and flip it over. Gold! The man like Cyan has obviously been listening to Calibre, Marcus Intalex & ST Files, because this is where that dub ragga sound is going people. I sick drum kit, and deeper than deep bassline and some old-school reggae horns. I can't believe both these tracks are on one piece of vinyl. Own this record or you have missed the plot. Spooky!

I actually left a few out last week, so here are the one's you missed:

Cause 4 Concern - Gas Chamber/Groove Madness on C4C Ltd.
Will they ever stop? I don't know. These guys are so hot right now just listening to this record online will make your blood boil. Finally some tech-step drum & bass made for everyone! Seriously though, 'Groove Madness' made me jump out Generic's swivel chair the first time I heard it on Place 2 Be...and it still gives me shivers to this day. Buy on sight! Also keep your eyes peeled for their next masterpiece coming next week in the form of 'Turn The Lights Down' and 'Life Support' on Matrix's Metro Recordings.

Spirit - Four Walls/All I Need on Inneractive.
Spirit's label is in high gear at the moment, with singles coming left, right and center. This one's got some trademark dub styles all over the place so be ready when you hear it! 'All I Need' is a BIIIIG sub-bass groover reminiscent of some of his earlier productions. I honestly haven't heard stuff this good from Spirit since his Phantom Audio days...which by the way, are coming back! Watch this space. Also stay on the lookout for more new Inneractive releases coming from Outrage as well as Tactile feat. Mindscape.

Artificial Intelligence - Switch On/Soul Good (Stress Level & TC1 RMX) on Commercial Suicide.
Over the last few years Klute's label has grown from an outlet of his own material to a true stable of deep-dubby-tech protoges. Artificial Intelligence put out some of their earliest material on this label and with good reason. Their sound completely fits in with CS's direction, and the original 'Soul Good' still ends up my record bag more often then not. 'Switch On' literally takes all the dope elements from their V hit 'Uprising' and adds neurofunk flavas reminiscent of D.Kay's 'It's On The Way'....what can I say? Pure bliss.

Baron - A Modern Way/The Hitsquad on Baron Inc.
The big B is back on his own label this time with another solid thumper. Don't expect anything groundbreaking here, but it's not exactly boring either. Baron has always had top notch production skills, and I'm not questioning any of that. But I must say I'm getting a little tired of tunes that essentially give us a kick and a snare with a different wobbly bass underneath. The good news is his new signing to Adam F & Fresh's Breakbeat Kaos can only mean one thing, progress has been made.

Total Science - Come On Baby/Muff Diverz on 31 Records.
More quality material from Q-Project and Spinback in the form of 2 cuts for Doc Scott's 31 Records. Usually I'd say the same old shit about TS tunes cuz they basically have a pretty simple formula, but I must say these tunes really do stand out from their more recent efforts. Not to mention, you've got to love the effort they put in to naming the tracks...sense of humour goes a long way for me. Solid.

Mindscape - Highway EP on DSCI4.
Contrary to what some people believe, Mindscape consists of 3 Hungarian bad boys: SKC, Scum & Andor. Since making their debut on DSCI4 not too long ago, people have been screaming like wild chimps for some fresh material, and here it is, 4 heavy duty jams of no-nonsense neurofunk for all you funky monkeys. To tell you the truth I can't even pick just one track as my favorite....they're all equally dope and I just can't decide......I know, I'll let Generic choose. Stay on the lookout for some hot new DSCI4 tuneage coming from Raiden, Ras, Propaganda, Psidream and Tactile.

That's it for now, more tunes coming shortly as usual. Also if anyone needs some reduced tix for Dieselboy this friday at Aria, you know where to find me.

this one's a little late...

[DRUM & BASS]

Cause 4 Concern – Life Support/Turn The Lights Down on Metro.
Hard to believe that after so many years, Matrix’s Metro Recordings is only up to it’s 14th release. The obvious upside to that, is the fact that virtually every single has been a head-nodding dancefloor shaker. This two-headed monster is no exception. C4C come with the goods yet again, both sides rock deep twisting basslines along stomping drum kits, add a little sci-fi vibe and you’ve got a neurofunk nerd’s dream come true. Tune of the week.

Commix – You’ll See/Trojan on 31 Records.
Is there a label this trio hasn’t been on yet? Hospital, V, CIA, Creative Source, Defunked and Breakbeat Kaos have all seen the light. Isn’t it about time you came to see what all the fuss is about? These guys bring the funk on a whole new level, incorporating deep dubby basslines with uplifting synths and keys and adding luscious vocal samples, every tune they put out just keeps getting better. Resistance is futile my friends.

Noetic – Enforcer/The Running Man on Heavy Rotation.
Heavy Rotation returns from purgatory with a new lease on life thanks to a switch in distribution, and first up comes the protégé Noetic. This guy is like the apprentice of Friction and Nu Balance and naturally comes off sounding a lot like them, but that ain’t a bad thing people! While this will get classified as being a bit of a “wobbly” tune, it’s still got a lot of kick to it, sort of like if Friction met Baron in a dark alley. Not for everyone, but these days, what is?

Dillinja – Lionheart/The Angels Fell/Armoured D/Silver Blade on White.
4 of the best from the Valve boss man, his back-catalog reads like an encyclopedia of breakbeat and bass devastation. 'Lionheart' is the rarest of the bunch, the classic colaboration of Dillinja and Berty B was the first and only release on the label of the same name. 'The Angels Fell' will always be his most groundbreaking material, meriting his first release on Metalheadz, which was later followed by 'Armoured D' on the Platinum Breakz 2 compilation. 'Silver Blade' is also a must-have gem coming from the vaults of Prototype. All in all, this is 1 serious history lesson on 1 serious twelve-inch.

Calibre – Drop It Down/Bleep on Signature.
RESTOCK!
Calibre for president.
