It had the power to bring about peace and togetherness, through music, dance and art, to some of North America’s roughest communities. These visionary street artists, which included DJs, MCs, B-Boys & Graffiti Artists, became the founding craftsmen of a movement that has transformed Hip-Hop into a lifestyle and thus, a way of life. At it's fundamental roots, Hip-Hop embodied a combination of artistic elements, from; visual and written art expressions- in the form of graffiti, an intermixture of dance styles developed from breakdance, articulations of Rhythm and Blues through voice and song, to the expression of thought through poetry- otherwise known as Rap. Once a movement confined to the underground arena of Block Parties, sidewalk dance battles and subway train canvases, it has since flourished into a multi-billion dollar industry, as it's influence has grown into becoming a prominent part of our pop culture today.
