Hello,

there is a psytrance festival called "ritual gathering" and I got a ticket for it in the first round. They were 45$ but then recently I saw on fb the volunteering tickets were 50$. I asked on the event if this was a mistake and I got this reply in a private message from one of the promoter, someone I have never spoken too.

I would like to know if the ban is still in effect as this could avoid me a few hours of driving round trip.

Please advise.

tu va vraiment te laisser crosser de 45$? tu devrais y aller même si c'est juste pour lui faire regretter.

Wutang, aren't you the dude that I always see at these out-door things, just chilling and dancin', takin' it easy ? ... you always seem calm, and having a good time.

To be treated like a first-rate shit-disturber, is a little rough o_O

If I were you I'd just sell my ticket -- unless of course your comments were super douchy and insulting and that's why dude reacted the way he did :P lol

Anyway, you'd think that promoters would be a little more diplomatic with their 'regular clientele' ... heh. The dude could've just answered your questions the way he did, publicly, minus the meanness. That way he would've saved face and a 'client'.

hey Nathan, thank you for the kind words. I think I saw you at hardtimes festival playing last, it was great ! That was such a great weekend.

I will probably sell my ticket and I always try to stay diplomatic on the internet since everyone can read it.

No problem, I call it like I see it ;)

Thnx! Was definitely a good Fest -- all fun, no bullshit, hehe

Yeah, at least when you do the right thing, you can't blame yourself when others get bitchy :P

I find it funny how you only put ot's responses and none of your comments. Hes a good guy and I doubt that was unprovoked.

Not the first time I see Ot'kunt flipping out at people and hurling threads like this. Despise what was being said before a promoter should never ever talk to any of his patrons this way.

I would have understood if the promoter wrote/said something like:
* you can't come to this event
* I've just let the ticket seller know we'll make good for your ticket refund
* let's hope I don't have to ban you from another event

Well, even good people can overreact and fuck up sometimes ;)

Doesn't take anything away from him as a person, just means he should've remained zen and professional as a promoter ... when organizing events, you have to separate the two, as hard as it is.

Once in a while promoters let their emotions get the better of them, and that doesn't bode well for their clientèle. Not judging, just stating facts ;)

What are the comments you actually posted Wutang? It will be nice to see both sides of the medal just for the record.

But yeah, if you simply asked why the Fb volunters tickets was 50$. It's overreating...(a lot).

Also like Nathan said, maybe the promoter is just a bit stressed with everything going on.

Anyway, go to the festival, im sure it's nothing if you simply asked this question. Talk to the promoter if you see it (haha good luck, hes probably running everywhere) and say it was just a question, no insults involved.

Give us a sitrep after!

I only had 1 post done asking if there was a mistake on the price of the volunteering ticket. I have never spoken to him or event sent a message. To be honest, there are more harsh words towards me but i just cuted it because it was too long.

Part of the other side of the medal comes from maybe like 9 months ago, some people were complaining they didn't get paid or he was owning money to them but he kept deleting those post on the fb event so i said "it's easier to delete a post then assume it" which also got deleted, so maybe some anger was still remaining...

Edit: actually i didnt cut it, the extra harsh words came at a later time

Oh come on....

Psy festivals for the most part dont make money. In fact they are a money loser. They are put on by ppl who live and die for the scene and are willing to make huge sacrifices and work hard for NO financial reward. DJS get admission plus one. Rave djs who download music for free then get to play at an event, and bring their girlfriend, should not complain about not getting paid. Its a community event and everyone contributes. Get over yourselves djs YOU MIX CDS FOR 90 MINUTES??

Could you be a little more insulting?

First, any decent DJ works hard at their art, and not all of us DL tracks for free (and some labels offer their tracks for free, no harm no foul) - I've bought hundreds and hundreds of records, CDs, and digital tracks - not to mention the cost of blank CDs (or USB keys) for playing out digital tunes, plus Headphones, which need to be purchased every year or two. Don't forget the transportation. Also, if it's a full weekend thing, beer, weed, FOOD. And of course, the person's TIME.

You're telling people that we just play some music for 90 minutes, and that's worth nothing? Try having a party WITHOUT any DJs (ie. no music), see how much fun you have dancing.

If it's a free party and the DJ voluntarily plays, fine, it's their prerogative - and we can say it's for the greater good. But, if there's a hefty cover charge, and you don't pay the DJs AT ALL, then that's fucked.

I run a '4$ at the door' night, and still pay my DJs.
I've thrown '20$ at the door' raves with less than 200 people, with all the typical costs involved, and still paid my DJs, knowing full well I was just adding to my debts.
It's the right thing to do. Period.

But go ahead, take us for granted, and you'll find that certain promoters won't throw events anymore simply because no one will play for them anymore. And if they've been losing massive amounts of money all the time, then they have to re-think their strategy - just not paying DJs is NOT a solution.

I mean fuck, doesn't seem like a "community event and everyone contributes", seems more like a promoter throws shit together, DJs pay to play, and the ravers pay outta their ass to get in. I see the overall "contributions", I don't see any viable "community" ...

Hello? I pay my tracks, I put the fucking time to learn to mix, I buy gear, I promote my crew as hard as I can. I fucking love music. It's pure passion. So, you understand that I need to get paid in order to make the whole thing work! When you come to a 64hz party, there is a good soundsystem, there is a good venue, there is security, it's not overcrowded, it's quality, it costs a fee and it doesn't lose money because it needs money to roll! And everyone gets paid! So the tickets are not 5$ either and, (drumroll), pretty much everyone is happy with our events, that we throw now and then since 2007. No drama. No bullshit. No crap.

When I played Eclipse, I was paid. I'll play there again. If I play St-Jean Bassiste, I know they'll pay me for my performance because that's how it works. I need fucking money to buy the tracks and gear so I can make some more. That's how a scene lives and thrives. At the first Totem I got 90$ and free entrance just for a damn door shift. That is called profesionnalism. It includes that you book good artists and show them some money (not that much. Strike a deal with me. I'm down for playing for 50$, even less, but I'm not a musical bitch that will just throw my time and money in the hope of playing for free just for ''love'')

I played Pandemonium last year and I had to fucking pay a bus trip ticket to get there and NEVER SAW A PENNY. This is how a scene dies. I'll never play those shady parties again. I know I'm just some local, barely visible techno DJ, so the fact that I'll never play there doesn't have any impact, but soon enough other artists will get fed up and leave. What will be left is poor quality. People who will just get there and do anything with the sound.

I am fucking dedicated to this music thing! Just because someone throws a huge party with massive overbooking doesn't mean that everyone should just get there and work\play for free just because they love it. Good luck with keeping that scene alive because it will be all eaten up by shady promoters that actually do it for their own goddamn image if nobody starts doing things properly.

If the promoter makes money, he can throw more parties. He pays the artists. They can buy more gear\music and make more music that you will want to hear. You got to water the flower if you don't just want it to die in an ocean of stupidity.

Been there, done that! Would you work for free just because you love your job? Well, not me.

In other news, why do psytrance parties are a ''money loser''? Overbooking, fuck! When you see 36 headliners in an event held in a forest near Montreal, Canada I think you can safely assume it's going to lose a damn good chunk of money! Maybe if the megalomania was tuned down a little...
