For those who know me, this might come as a surprise, but early this year, I had my first panic attack. It came at a time when I was feeling pretty bad physically and I sort of freaked out, thought I was having a heart attack. It was like a bad trip, but then it happened a few times without any sort of drugs in my system. Without going into too much details it took a very real toll on what I perceive as being my 'health'.
A few actual physical traumas (cracked another rib and fucked up my back) and many months later, I can recognize the anxiety coming and I can recover from any 'attack' within seconds. but that's like, not good enough, it still happens. I stlll feel it.
Have any of you lived through anxiety and gotten over it? What does it take? What do you do?
Feel free to share stories, tips, insults, porn, etc...

I'm a stupid fucking hippy who thinks he know all about mordern medicine but despise it because I adhere to dogmatic principals founded on ancient spiritual writings that I obviously fail to comprehend and I think that your illness is based solely on your shakras being disaligned.

Means you have to chill out...

A guy I work with got exactly what you describe. Was caused by too much work and stress.
Apparently, once you have had a burnout once, you're never the same again.

Has something to do with your adrenal glands.

my life is far from stressful though, that's what I don't get. They say it's something I'm not consciously thinking about or whatever but, who the fuck is 'they' anyway? I do have quite a bit 'going on' but I don't think of any of it as stressful.
i'm starting yoag like next week actually! we'll see :)

peace.
I'm feeling bye right now..

you know what. the anxiety shows through the music you mix, through how you mix it. hm... the music, the psy, it can teach you stuff about the nervous system. hm... i don't want to be judged here by what i say but if you're curious of what i say, send me a PM.

yoga is a good idea, it include some good teaching on breath. it's the base of being alive and the word spiritual come from the same as respirer. meditation too...

stop drinking coffee... you probably already did, but just in case. ;)
some herbal tea are calming. try maybe sage, passiflore, damiana, hops, blue lotus. in a crisis, just the tea ritual can be calming, and the hot water, etc. you can buy the herbs at la bottine a herbes or l'alchimiste... or other places too... and also they have a little screen thing to put the herbs in to infuse.

anxiety is your system telling you something. maybe see what are the situations that trigger the crisis. it can be insightful on something you need to adress...

Anxiety and panic attacks are a very strange problem indeed. Most times brought on by other stressers, sometimes inexplicable. I think it's inherently chemical, as in unbalanced brain chemicals. Obviously superficial things can help, like exercise, relaxation, avoiding 'uppers' like caffeine, or depressers like alcohol, avoiding stressful situations / conflict, etc. But those things are never ever a guarantee, they just help a bit. Possibly. (they can also make it worse, given certain unforseen circumtances)

The problem is that panic attacks can also just happen, no matter what you were or were not doing. The other major problem is that it's impossible to avoid the causes of anxiety. You can't hide in a hole and hope nothing bad triggers a panic attack. In fact, if you were inclined to attacks, simply being away from normal social things can cause anxiety.

I guess what I'm saying, is that people who suffer from panic attacks are pretty much screwed. I've had 'em, though I don't admit it when it happens (hard to say, 'oh this is just a stupid panic attack'). How do you avoid pain and therefore avoid the mental hurt that causes panic attacks? It's impossible. And if you have attacks without any obvious triggers, then it's 100% chemical and you'll just have to deal with it when it happens. Pharmaceutical drugs are definitely not a cure, side effects are probably worse ...

Cut down on stress, and when it happens, do whatever you've been doing (since you say you can get over it quickly) and breathe deep, relax.

It's really scary dealing with people who get this. When you realize what it is, and not blame inane factors (like, 'chick is just crazy') then at least you can be sympathetic, but it's hard to 'cure'. Sometimes it's best to leave the person alone, sometimes best to talk, sometimes they need to be held ... it varies from person to person, and also depends on what triggered the attack. But they always seem irrational. And, it is, I think.

It's propbably the same kind of imbalance that makes certain ppl schizo, or have OCD, or whatever mental issue.

If you find that you live on for a while without suffering from any panic attacks, please let us know what you've done ;)

(I'm no doctor though, feel frree to fill in or correct with FACTS)
I'm feeling you up right now..

i get anxiety when i feel powerless... when something does not go as planned due to circumstances beyond my control, and i'm running out of time... it creates this intense stress and then i get emotionnal about it, and, uh, is that anxiety?

because this happens to me every once in a while... and while it happens i realize just how ridiculous i am reacting, and that it's not helping my situation at all... yet i don't know what to do...

then somehow i calm down, realize that i can do things if only i calm down... not sure how... laugh it off, and realize there was nothing to stress about, that it's not so important...
