Why Do People Take Drugs?

 Coolness: 108720 | I'm sometime bored and go through this section by mistake. The way I see people (short of having a qualificative like druggies or w/e) about drugs seem to me the same way geeks talk about games or manga. The thing is me and psychotropic substances go bad together so I stay away.
I know I play games because I sometimes can't handle my life and escape from it by imagining I'm such or such character instead of the hard realities facing most of us. Do I find real pleasure from it? Doubtful. I guess it's just one way I endure life with my poor constitution. I'm sure one day I'll look at the games I now enjoy as I see games made for a younger-at-heart audience: senseless ; or that I used to masturbate to mail-order catalogs underwear section. |

i only take the psychedelic drugs, and they open up some depth. they show me something more real than the illusions i sometimes keep... they show me how to make it all minimal, simple. like a zen teacher. :) if you take psychedelics to be someone else you'll only be faced with yourself, your truth... ten times stronger. |

Sometimes I just don't like being the only sober one when I'm chilling with my friends, and since I don't smoke weed this usually is the case. |

 Coolness: 685505 | I know that for me, I used to take drugs for a bit of a twofold reason.. one was because it was fun as hell.. even something as mild as weed shifts your perception a tiny little bit.. It's like bringing magic back to the world - colours are brighter and more vibrant, everything feels good, you feel uplifted and it's like you're discovering the world for the first time all over again.
My other main reason was a distraction.. Fun as it was, for me it was always a great way to not think about my problems.. That's why I mostly avoided shrooms or acid or anything really psychedelic and stuck to weed, speed, mdma and alcohol.. If everything going on around you is "enhanced" to be more awesome, you spend more time thinking about that than you do about how much you hate yourself and your life. |

 Coolness: 65830 | When I was younger, late teens young adult, I did psychedelics for the TRIP! We would get together, everyone would take their respect doses and we would chill out together, roam together, play music, have wild conversations and it was all about the experience, together. It was really amazing and I will never forget those moments in the forest or in a house or in the street, or on the bus! The trips would then provide weeks of more conversations until we had all hashed out everything we felt and how the trip went. Really magical.
Now, last few years, I take them for stamina :S They keep me going all night-ish, and because this is the only reason I am using, it is getting boring and meaningless. |

i can take lots of psychedelics, no problem. but weed, it makes me antisocial in social situations, and i start thinking about what other people think i think, and analyze everyone's unconscious gestures in a really obsessive way, and i start shaking and feeling tense, really it's not fun at all. it's not THC intolerance as an allergy, but my mind does not react well to it now. i used to smoke lots when i was 17-19, but for some reason now i can't handle it. and it's sad because i know i really liked the weed... so whatever, i just don't take it... or i'll have it about twice a year, in small quantity (because i need so little to get high, i'm not used to it anymore) and i'll learn so much on these moments... i just have to be really careful about when and where i take it, even more than with lsd... |

drugs abuse IS some psychedelics less harmful then for example tobacco:) and they make you use a bit more percentage of your brain abilities I'd say:) U see this world in different angle. It's interesting experience. If its not too much and not too often- why not?:) |

i wanna experience lsd, always wanted to try it Kyle, just don't do too much, be with your friends and DON'T be scared of taking it:) you will get interesting experience. Its better outside but at indoor raves it's not bad at all, even if there are many people u don't know. |

Really magical. this sound to me just like you'd enjoy life with other people ; just as like-minded people spiritual or philosophical could do together. there are lots of things your mind can tap into when sober ; I think Buddhism and Hinduism focused on those. what I wonder is why use any of those techniques (taking drugs or meditating). I see the motivations but not much of the reasons. perhaps this would be more pertinent to a philosophy group. |
