hardcore is back .. i'm plenty happy XD

again, i like some psy - except for the silly neo-hippy space-theology that surrounds it - and i'm all for peace between scenes .. so, maybe it's about time that the psy-trance scene started being a little more inclusive, and started expanding its musical horizons ...

'cause maybe psy ppl don't think other music is worse, they just think theirs is better. and that, is starting to get irritating & arrogant ...

"earth to modern-hippies! get back down here! you're up way too high!" :p
I'm feeling you up right now..

It was seriously the best party I have been to in a long time.

Someone from Toronto, who just moved here, threw it. :)

ya I think we must be talking about the same guy - Jackson plays under the name Otherpeoplesmusic. this is him here in the pic with me

and ya you're right he is from Toronto - I met him there years back playing at some of his Pink:sox jams. he's a fucking awesome person and throws amazing free breakcore/jungle/strange music parties.

him and Luke Peril also threw the WHAM jam back in November which was fun. he's definitely a good addition to the Montreal scene =)

lol what do you mean?
it's not psytrance, it's DMT. i haven't smoked it, i don't understand all the alien references either. and i don't mind that much. there is still always some ultra wise people out there at psy parties, who can speak about real things. like make jokes about brossard. or speak of herbal medicine. and how to make safety nets. etc.

but you know, i don't like speed and i can't relate to the whole hate/murder/blood/destruction cult of the hardcore scene, so i guess we're even ;)

...

i've seen many psy/hardcore and psy/dubstep parties. i don't mind actually, i know most people enjoy them. but when the two music styles are in different rooms... seriously you just need to think this : by mixing two styles together do i attract people to my party or do i keep people away?
personally i would not pay for a party that is 50% of a music i can't stand, or that at best leaves me indifferent... unless they are in two rooms and i can get 100% of what i like.

more than 148 BPM i don't like so much. not because i am close-minded, but just because i know what i want, i know how i like to move. i've been to all styles of parties, and i encourage all ravers to do the same. multi-genre parties are for that really awesome. find more venues with 3 or 4 rooms. do less competition and more cooperation within the scenes. i'm all for that... that's what OUI-R-1 was starting to create, but we do need the right venues for it.

by the way if anyone wants to make a chillroom for their parties.. please do it. i miss the chillrooms... and not chillroom in the sense of a place to smoke..... i mean real chillrooms with a fun vibe, chill music and people high on e making massages and people dancing to some ethnic chill music, or atmospheric drum n bass or reggae or whatever...
I'm feeling metal right now..

YES! That's him! He came up to me at the end of the party and was like "Hey man, I saw you dancing to all the best music playing tonight so I thought I come say Hi." Hahaha. He seems like a really nice guy. Definitely a fine addition to the scene. I hope this means more breakcore/jungle/strangeness ahead. Definitely someone I would like to work with.

haha! XD

actually, the hardcore ppl are the most peaceful and chill i know .. we usually get the anger out through the music, instead of pretending that all is cuddly and peachy and shiny ... i hate speed too, in fact, the only time i did any was at Natura ;)

... and what i mean is: the deco isn't just spaced themed, the ppl aren't just spaced out, but most of the psy parties i've seen lately have these long vague descriptions about the 'netherverse of butterflies and vortexes' and what not -- don't act like you don't know! Actually, the OuiR1 crew are some of the ppl who don't always engage in that stuff, and more power to you.

Anyway, it comes down to opinion, so thnx for sharing yours ..(at least you don't converse like you have your head up your ass)

:)

i know they are :)
outside of parties i've talked to many of them, they are like other ravers lol.

hm. space stuff i know. some party descriptions are making me roll eyes... but it does not happen all that often. i think of the latest one, alien distortion, was the most awesome because it was humoristic. but people who take themselves too seriously... actually i have not seen that many party descriptions who were that bad.

looking at my latest attending psy parties... apart from the humoristic description of alien distortion, only one of them have the space nonsense themed description [ www.rave.ca ] apart from this, one speaks of reaching the cosmos through music and dancing (aka trance) but that's kind of the goal of a trance party... just the same as the goal of a hardcore party would be to release the anger (hence the murder and hate talk)

i understand it's two different approaches to the same phenomenon, and we both feel equally good when we get out of the parties :P

and... space themed deco? that's an interpretation. basically it's just structures...
unless you speak of the space tribe banners. i guess they want to make people feel like they are somewhere else. in space. weightless. those banners are an easy fix to a party though. instant deco... you buy them at psychonaut and there you have fluorescent-reactive stuff to cover the walls so we have something else to look at than the crappy walls with beer advertisement or whatever else is there :P

but julien seyer's art for example, has a lot more nature-y earthy feel to it... and neil gibson's art is more about geometry and things ripping apart.

WOAH WOAH WOAH. Slow down there, buddy. Speak for yourself.

I do not have any anger to release while listening to hardcore. Hardcore puts the biggest smile on my face (no, not happy hardcore bullshit) and DOES NOT make me want to murder or hate people. XD

And, the hardcore that I spin does not talk about murder or hate either. So, I do not know what you are talking about, my friend.

I guess so.

But, to defend my party, Reign In Blood, the reason why I chose "blood" as the theme for said party, is because:

A) big soundsystem to punch the living daylights out of anyone who dared to stand within 50 feet of the speakers.

B) My *personal* fascination with blood/gore/horror.

AND of course,

C) the line up was so crazy, music made your ears bleed. :D (my favorite)

But, when I see Massacre this and Slaughterhouse that, I feel like it relates to the sound the music gives off. I mean, when I am dancing to hard/terror/break/whatevercore, I feel like I am being "slaughtered by sound". :) It is a most welcoming feeling.

I don't feel like the music is about "HATE *KICK* KILL *KICK*" repeat.

The reason why I love Hardcore so much is because it is intense, loud, powerful and gets me off my feet.

And, by the way, I do not do speed. Or any drugs for the matter. Hell, I barely even drink.
I'm feeling x_x right now..

i am def def not saying that people are like that. but it's a culture thing. saying everything is space nonsense in psy is equal to saying everything is destruction and hate nonsense in hardcore. both are stereotypes that *can* be true for some people. but those people are like... 5%? maybe less. probably less.

& i don't mind the hardcore party names, i make fun of them. i remember wanting to call a party we are NOT slaves. ;)

sooo i know what you say when you speak of the sound the music gives off.... just like some sounds in psytrance can make you think of aliens or cosmic timetravel through the gates of the galaxies or whatever.

and happy hardcore sounds make you think of hugging carebears under the rainbow until they suffocate from the smell of cheese or something like that.

stereotypes are fun when we know it's stereotypes... not when we take them seriously like certain people who were posting in this thread :P
